I had a brainwave and thought of Souness who won the FA Cup with Liverpool, but he never won the Scottish Cup with Rangers. I think the answer must be pre-1970 and maybe well before that.

It doesn't help me either. I assume he managed Sunderland to the cup pre-war as I'm pretty sure it wasn't the '73 manager (Bob Stokoe?). I'm stumped!
