Purpose: Quizes seem to be popular. The ancient one is popular, and I'd like a medieval one. The middle ages seem to get neglected a wee bittie too much. People seem to be more interested in the periods at either side of the middle ages. ANyway, there are enough of us interested in the Medieval period to enjoy this quiz. I've been waiting for some time for someone else to open a medieval quiz, but no-one has.

Scope: From the Arab invasions (roughly), to the 16th century, the ages of Charles V, Francis I, Suleiman Kanuni, Ivan IV(a wee bit later, but time isn't really the best way of fixing periods :o ), the conquistadores, the reformation, etc. These are merely guidence points though.

The Quiz is Cumulative. First peson asks, second person answers correctly and then asks his own question. NOTE: In most cases, a third person should answer the latter question. This will prevent the thread becoming a two person thing, as is not unknown to happen on CFC ;)

I'll start us off then. :D

Beginning his career at about 60 years of age, which humble French noble became King of Jerusalem, , commanded the papal armies that attacked the the holdings of the absent Frederick II, became Emperor of Constantinople and died there as a Franciscan at the age of nearly 90?

Ivan IV fits into 16th Century..

Excellent idea on the quiz... But damn, never doing history at school and only doing my own history through books, I have no idea on your first question.. But wow what a guy when you look at when he did everything

IIRC, it was a doge of Venice, Enrico Dandolo...

John of Brienne? It's just a guess because I remember a description of him as being the former King of Jerusalem and eventually becoming emperor.

Indeed :goodjob: Your shot...

In 1361 the Turks captured a famous battle site (city) in which the Eastern Roman Empire was defeated by Visigoths nearly 1000 years earlier. What was the name of this battle site (city)?

Adrianopolis?

Adrianople.

If nobody gets the two part answer, I'll give away one part of it.

Question #3: Name the large nomadic tribe of Turkic peoples that became unique in the 8th century by doing something very outside the norm. Who were they and what was this unusual event?

P.S. I'd suggest keeping track of the score in the original post, with each person to guess correctly getting one point, just for a little fun. Maybe even include the "number of guesses" as a secondary statistic.
