Current (SVN) development discussion thread

I know Leoleth wanted the Spanish AI to take Cordoba more often, but I think the recent changes are bordering on too much. Spain just rampages right into southern Iberia very early now. In the century which was historically the Golden age for Cordoba, I am barely surviving, and dedicating the majority of my resources just to this. I'll admit the moors were WAY to easy before these changes. I actually won my first domination victory with them of all of the civs added recently. But now, it's almost too difficult.

I suggested adding the Alhambra for the Moors.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhambra

Requires Construction, Islam and Wine, gives the same bonus as the Theodosian Walls, adds a trade route like castles, and gives additional happiness and health so building it helps you get the first objective (so you can build it early without losing the first objective). The Alhambra was one of the main reasons the Moors stayed in Spain so long, so it would definitely help them keep hold of Cordoba for a bit longer.

Also, I would consider a change to the Spanish gold and silver UHV to make it more focused on the New World, and to force them to go into South America. Atm you can win the UHV by getting:

1 Silver in Iberia
1 Gold in S.Africa (UP makes this easy)
1 Silver in Mombasa
3 Silver and Gold in Mexico
3 Silver and Gold in California
1 Gold in Manila
1 Gold in Western US

Whilst I know the Spanish shouldn't really go to S.Africa, it's just too tempting to resist what with the UP and Durbin / Wimberg (on the gold) being such an awesome commerce and production city. Personally I would say the Spanish need to acquire 8 gold and silver resources in America, to force them to go fight the Incas as IRL. Or also require them to conquer or vassalise Mexico and the west of the Andes?

In the current SVN, have settlers been completely disabled outside your home continent? I've now found I can't train settlers anywhere other than my home continent, even after I get Astronomy.

I don't see the problem. 7 of those are in the new world, and 3 more are colonies. The only non-colonial resource is the Silver in Iberia. That means you should get 9 resources by colonies.
And you are somewhat forced to the New World, because those are the easiest way to the a sufficient amount of the required resources. (is it even possible to get the UHV without the resources in the Americas?)

1. Iberia
2. Manila
3,4. Japan
5. Papua new Guinae
6. Melbourne
7. South Africa
8. Mali
9. Oslo
10. India or Myanmar

Yes it is possible.

I once popped a gold resource on the hill south of the Silver while playing Spain with 1.9 (i.e. no Moors). That helped a lot. :)

Have you added the name in the python as well?

Python is a programming language. Look into Assets/Python/DynamicCivs.py and modify the "specificVassalNames" (or similar, not sure atm) dictionary.

Any news on this Leo?

I'm not talking about the New World, I'm talking about the Incas specifically. The Spanish conquest of S.America was one of their most important historical events, but in DoC there's no real motivation to do it as you don't need the Incan resources to win the UHV. I think it should be changed so you focus more on the Aztecs and Incas rather than getting the resources from places like S.Africa.

But I suppose I could just go and conquer the damn Incas myself :)

right but you're kinda being obstinate by trying to not conquer the inca lands. all you have to do is swing a caravel by it and you get conquerers, giving you cities that not only get you some gold and silver, but provide cities in your historical area to catholicize and grow/build settlers for colombia/argentina?

why would you ever not conquer peru as the spanish?

I looked up the code and there's no way this should be disabled if you have Astronomy, and since nobody else confirmed this I thought the problem lies somewhere else. Anyone?

Because the Inca make far better use of their lands than the Spanish do, due to their UP. I always vassalise the Inca rather than conquer them for this reason. Their lands are really quite bad if you cannot work the Mountain tiles.

So I figured out how to make it so Portugal could have a custom name when a vassal of the moors! I had to add a iMoors : { iPortugal: "TXT blah blah",}. The funny thing though, was I added a generic name ( in the generic vassal list I added the iPortugal and the TXT), but that didn't work!

I had the same problem as Swarbs where I couldn't build settlers outside my core cities, even after discovering astronomy. This was a few revisions back though, haven't played colonial civs for a while so it might be fixed.

Can you elaborate what you did with the generic names? Also, which vassal name did you choose?
