Current (SVN) development discussion thread

I like the loss of communication too, but indeed, perhaps Paper should just make all contacts permanent. Or, since that might still be a little early, Astronomy.

Currently it's Electricity that makes contacts permanent which kind of makes sense because of telegraphs.

True, but losing contacts in the mid-game without the ability to keep them would be equally frustrating and might impair the AI as much as the hammers spent on Embassies do. If the time spent on embassies is the concern, just make them cheaper.

I am in support of electricity. Congresses then create temporary contact. Important intercontinental relations like America-France or Britain-China will be maintained by colonies.

I would think that by the 18th or absolute latest 19th everyone would be more or less able to contact everyone, provided they want to, so I'd say Electricity comes somewhat too late for that.

What about Railroad? It comes a bit earlier than Electricity and enables fast transportation, thus fast communication.

Playing as Egypt, not going for UHV, latest rev.
I forgot to activate Phytex (Phyton Exception) and do not save the game.. but I don't think a Phytex might be necessary for below :

1) A wandering Celtic Gallic Warrior captured Rome's Byzantion; then followed by messages "Rome has declared war on !"

2) Clause: I intentionally found Hinduism, but didn't found Buddhism
Effect:
-Ashoka is Hindu at start with no Hindu cities at all, later convert to Taoism haha
-Tamil is Hindu, I have no idea how they get Hindu missionaries...
-Buddhism has no holy city (I thought it's already fixed?) because I still don't want to build a Hindu temple by the time Korea spawn...

Suggestions:
- Every leader should not spawn with pre-determined religion preferences, but spawn with missionaries of the supposed religion instead.. (dunno the effect to other civs, though)
- Auto-build Hindu temple in Varanasi by 400BC IF Varanasi is not controlled by human OR make Hanseong, the first city that would have Buddhism then, as the Buddhist holy city

3) I think the troop stacks given to Greece and Rome when they declare war to their neighbors should be re-balanced because it's pretty overkill.. and it's pretty annoying when you're on the invaded side. Also, their troops should decay over time to re-balance the game.

4) Too many Phoenician army just stand for nothing in Sur while Carthage needs military help asap. Perhaps when AI are given a settle in Carthage, 75% of their army in Sur should be moved to Carthage as well.

5) I can hire my UU, Egyptian War Chariot, as mercenaries.

6) What do you think about adding +1 diplomacy "You protect our holy city" between a civilization that runs Theocracy to a civilization that own their state religion's holy city. Example: Mecca

7) Assyrian barbarian spawns at a bare Southern Arabia land, and Nubian Medjay spawns at my territory not in Nubia.

I tend to get Electricity before Railroad, but that's just me. And I agree that it should come earlier than that (Nationalism seems a good choice, so does Astronomy, but maybe Economics or Corporation could be possibilities too to represent global trade allowing permanent contact). Oh, and since it hasn't come up yet, that'd obviously be a good obsoletion tech for Embassies.

Due to dynamic names. They probably declared war on Phoenicia/Carthage when known as Carthage. There's a similar problem with Holy Rome/Austria.

The same problem.

Ok it works now, probably the server was under mantainance or something.

One question: can i use the Blue Marble / Varietas / Sounds packs for v1.10 also with the SVN version?

Blue Marble is just a graphics package and will always work.

Varietas Delectat should work as well, but the upcoming addition of Mexico might cause problems there (or they'll just be the only civ without unique art, not sure).

The soundtrack module currently has a minor conflict with the changed civics, but you can easily fix that yourself.

Ok!

I'll use only the blue marble then

See the other thread.

I think I will commit the Mexico revision soon.

Committing at the moment. The only thing missing are the UHV goals.
