There’s a lot of potential with the new secret societies mode, and since there are only four, there’s a lot of conceptual breathing room too.

Here are some ideas in case anyone wants to do some modding:

The Shadow League: inspired by the Hashishin and Batman’s Ra’s al-Ghul. They can train Assassins which can eliminate other civs agents: missionaries, cultists, builders, whatever. They can also sabotage buildings without needing spies.

The Black Hand: like a medieval mafia. Banks are replaced with Thieves’ Guilds that can siphon funds from other civs and trade routes.

The Weird Sisters: witches, pretty simple. They can build Covens instead of Shrines to siphon faith from their neighbors. Witches can hex units, putting them out of commission for a few turns while they recover from the curse.

The Hallowed Brotherhood/Redeemers/Whatever: a holy themed order. Maybe with Paladins, Templars, Confessors or Witch-hunters. Whatever is most fun conceptually. They can exorcise the other societies from neighboring civs’ cities. They can build Chapter Houses in other civs’ territory to try to keep rival societies from returning.
