Yesterday I went to get a fitted dress shirt. After walking around the mens fancy wear section looking for the guy with the tape measure I went to the check out and asked them. One girl looked at me ******ed like she didn't know what a tape measurer was. The other said we don't do that hear with the most disgusted look on her face. What? You sell fitted shirts but have no one around to assist in finding the right size? What is a man to do? Well he simply unpins 20 shirts and tries them all on until he finds the right size. Then he leaves a nice messy pile of shirts and pins.

Its bad enough my tailor closed shop and retired a month ago. ( his hands were getting shaky and in his late 70s it was time ) But now I'm stuck with no help and store workers who find it rude you dare to bother them needing help with something. Is it really so hard to have people with the proper skills to serve your customers? And its not just at this store I see it every where. It seems to be a do it yourself world now, case in point the self check out lines.

Am I crazy? Is this just around here?

Never underestimate the power of complaining! Let them know that the service is unnacceptable, and you might be surprised at the response...

Our local Macy's (formerly Kaufman's) is about the same, most department stores are.

You're shopping the wrong place. Try a Brooks Brothers, Saks or even a Jos A. Bank. They usually have a tailor working on site.

Therein lies the problem. Too many people, especially here in the UK, tend to moan rather than complain.

To the OP - rather than going about calling people ******s and acting like a spoilt brat (leaving a pile of shirts and treating others like skivvies) why not actually do something constructive yourself and ask to speak with the management?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'll assume most retail staff are only towing the official line. These people are probably paid a pittance and the last thing any one needs at work is some random coming in off the streets with a huge chip on his shoulder.

So asking for a tape is a chip on the shoulder? And the second girl was a manager. Who exactly did I treat bad? And the pile of shirts wouldn't have been needed if they just had a tape. I actually had to try on 20 shirts. Now I'm not going to fold and pin all those shirts back up so I left them in a pile. Now if thats spoiled brat so be it. God forbid I get some help. And you are wrong. The store I went to wasn't K-mart and they were getting paid nicely. And the last thing they need at work is some random........ Well then if they can't be bothered to help the customer maybe they shouldn't work retail. And when a girl doesn't understand what a tape measurer is for and has a dumbfounded look on her face when you ask for one, yeah thats pretty ******ed. Excuse me for expecting something from people, like them having a clue or even being slightly adept at their job.

To be fair, your initial 20 shirts comment was written with some arrogance/smugness attached to it (unlike your second post). I can only respond to what I read.

That aside, though, maybe writing to their head office would go some way to rectifying the problem. Like telling them a few staff training courses wouldn't go amiss. Having said that, I'm not daft and I know most companies bin these things as soon as they see it's a complaint letter.

To be fair, it seems like his smugness could have never came to fruition in the first place if not for his counterparts own smugness.

To be fair, Skad is quite often misunderstood on these forums ;)

I know I would have been surprised/pissed if such a place would not provide for help finding the right size and fitting the shirts...

To be fair, he could have brought his own tape measure.

Which is a bit like bringing your own fork to a restaurant.

I would have just walked out and left(even at the sears around here they'll measure you) the fact that you made a hassle for the peons by making them fix 20 shirts means nothing to people in management since they got your cash.

Its true. I blame the accent.

Well McDonalds don't give them :(

Anyway I don't buy fitted shirts, but there's plenty of suit... err... shops? that have staff that won't measure you. I've come to expect what Skad was talking about from most high street chain stores.

If it was a proper tailor I'd be angry though.

There is a restaurant in Orlando, where you go and cook your own food using the restaurant's cookware.

In all seriousness, what kind of clothing establishment that sells FITTED clothes, does not have a measuring tape on hand, and the people properly trained to get customers the proper fitted shirt? That's ridiculous. I would have walked right out the door.

If the shirts weren't on sale 70% I would have. Obviously they were on sale because no one bought them. Mayhaps no one was buying because they didn't have a handy tape around to know what size to get.

The McDonalds where you live done have forks? :crazyeye: They have forks in every McDonalds I've been at. Granted, they're plastic, and about as crappy when compared to real forks as their food is when compared to real food, but they are forks.
