This mod reduces warmongering penalties by default, halving them for earlier eras and leveling off at 24 instead of 32 in the modern eras. Additionally, Joint Wars provide 50% warmongering penalties instead of the full 100%.

The xml file is annotated so that it is easily customizable. Simply change the numerical values to whatever reasonable value you wish (extreme values will probably break your game somehow).

In order to edit the warmonger values navigate to Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Mods\TCS Customizable Warmonger Penalties and open the TCS_Improved_Warmongering.xml file with any text editor, although I strongly recommend Notepad++.

Installation
Unzip to your Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\Mods directory.

Thanks for this mate, in every single game despite my aggressiveness I would always be the warmonger, pretty pathetic. Will see if this mod helps the game being a little more normal.
Cheers!

how do i increase the penalties so they are so high AI won't attack me within 50 turns...

also you forget to put the files in a folder named TCS Customizable Warmonger Penalties

Well, you could increase the Ancient era warmongering penalties to something like 32...that's the penalty for warmongering in vanilla Information era. If you ever want the AI to start any wars at all though I'd drop it back down really low in the Classical or Medieval eras. Give that a try?

I'm confused about your last point...when I extract from the zip file it automatically creates the TCS Customizable Warmonger Penalties folder...?

if you choose extract to here it doesn't create a folder.

i set it to

<GameInfo>
<!--These values set the default warmongering penalty-->
<Eras>
<Update>
<Where EraType="ERA_ANCIENT"/>
<Set WarmongerPoints="32" /> <!--default 0-->
</Update>
<Update>
<Where EraType="ERA_CLASSICAL"/>
<Set WarmongerPoints="32" /> <!--default 8-->

maybe now they will leave me the hell alone until medieval era...

Thanks you so much for this thecrazyscot !
By the way could you add a fix for the fact a nation you just make peace with, your relationship goes to neutral instead of hostile ? Is it possible ? Because we are many in civ's fans to want that back... I loved the fact 2 nation just made peace would behave like if you were finally making peace with a friend after a bad argue, it makes sense i mean... only twisted minds stay evil after making peace... I hope you agree and that would totally complete your awesome tweaking mod : D

Lol, sorry I was shooting my question to the crazy scot at any idea how they're war declarations happen.. Like does the warmongering penalty just go on topof their relationship points, and if it reaches -20 do they war??? I've no idea how the AI table works :)

so much for that idea 39 turns and spain declares a surprise war on me..

That's unfortunately still a bit opaque (at least to me). And I also read some info from a thread on reddit (sorry, can't remember it right now) that speculated that there was a bug with warmonger penalties which occasionally caused the penalty to be exponentially multiplied instead of simply being added to the score, but I just don't know for sure, sorry :sad:

That could certainly be due to Spain's hidden agenda, at least one of which ignores warmongering penalties IIRC.

Thank you so much for this. I will be using this in my next game as warmongering penalties are my largest complaint.
