CVN3 - Middle Ages AW (Byzantines)

Go ahead and take it now, I can't play until next Saturday. Yes I know I forgot, RL and other SGs got in my way. But I still wanna play this through for Cuivienen, might as well.

In fact, I really liked this game idea.

But, some games simply don't work as SGs; the second half of this game is a good example - impossible to deal with invisible units when handing over the game.

Nevertheless, it was quite fun to play on.

What happened next:

In 1188AD, we completed the Knights Templar Wonder in Ancyra. The odd Crusader was pointless, but the cheap upgrades were a big help. It's not that you have a healthy economy in this Conquest; even with the biggest empire on Earth, 100% net commerce was something like 150gp, and 50gp of that were from interest.
Killed endless numbers of Swordsmen from about 10 Civs on the Balkans for ages; we had a good defensive position there, but any progress there was almost impossible for ages.

Here's a screenshot from a typical turn:
1224AD

In Asia minor, the Abbassid Ansars were a real pain; surprisingly, they did not switch over to entirely Assassins as hoped - those would have been a lot easier to deal with once detected. Here, we suffered by far more casualties. Move 3 units are simply hard to deal with...
Another surprise was that a pillaged core and even the loss of several smaller towns there and Antioch did not hurt them as much as expected; they still managed to stay ahead of us in tech. Progress here was much slower than hoped.

In the Mediterranean Sea, our Dromons ruled as expected. Not a single Longboat made it to our coastline.

And, the Turkish campain was highly successful; one single MDI Army and a stack of Dromons was able to raze 2 big and 3 smaller cities, denying them Horses for most of the game. And, since luckily the Turks were at war with the Magyars and Rus throughout the entire game, we never faced any attacks from Rus and Turks.

In the 1230ies, the waves of units from the Western Civs finally dried out; only Poland and Burgundy kept sending SoDs. Germany was pillaged, the odd Danish Berserk was easily to deal with, and France was busy fighting the Cordovans (sub bug, I guess).

In 1248, razing a size 8 Turkish city finally brought us over the 30k limit. Had a scary moment the interturn before, since our Army there went down to a single HP against a Sipahi (the only one I ever saw). Still, it managed to kill the last redlined Spear in the city. This saved a few turns.

The final map:

Some random notes:
*We got 18 MGLs. Only 7 Armies though, lack of cities and absolutely no room to found new ones. I even captured Crete to form a second Cataphract Army.
*Abbassids got a SGL for HBR or CB, but couldn't use it for anything
*Never met England. Never saw a single Fatimid unit.
*Tech pace was incredibly slow; we had Theology as only 3rd era tech, and only Polearms, Medicine and Seafaring was known to some Civs.
*Bulgars and Magyars never built a single culture improvement. Still, Bulgars were one of the Tech leaders, they were ahead of all European Civs. The reason is obvious: They were the only Civ not completely bankrupt, since we killed their units every turn...
Castille for example was so broke, some of their units disappeared after entering our territory.
