You are unfortunate enough to be military, political and domestic advisor to your Uncle, Billy Goodbody, who happens to be the King of a small city-state in the middle of nowhere.

He neglected to tell you that he was declared war on for his stupidity by his distant neighbors, the Hicks. A messenger arrived yesterday with news that the vanguard of the army would be here within the week.

"Well, shoot,"

You say.

"We have a couple options, I guess, Uncl- I mean, King Billy... We could:

1: Call the rabble to the city, and hunker down for a besiegement.

2: Make a stand at one of the bridges.
-A: North bridge
-B: South bridge

3: Make a stand at one of the villages.
-A: North village
-B: South village

4: As they approach the city, ambush them from the Frightening Woods

5: Beg for reinforcements from our neighbor to the north-east.

6: Try to negociate with the invaders, maybe let them take control of one of the villages.
-A: North village
-B: South village

7: Try to convince them that our neighbors are actually the Goodbody family...

OOC:

Welcome! CYOA: Create your own adventure! I have forced my friends to do it in AIM chats for a decade, but I never had a proper name for it, or a community. This will be fun!

If anyone has any awesome sprites, I will gladly take a look at them. I just googled civ II units.

2B. Making a stand at the bridge seems like the best idea since it serves as a natural chokepoint. There is really no way we can defend the southern village, but we can definitely help the north. Defending the southern bridge first means we can always use the northern one as a fallback point.

Option 5.

"So, as I was saying," you continue.

"I believe the best option would be to hold the south bridge, my nuncle, as we could always fall back to the northern bridge in the eventuality that we-"

"I SAID NO! SEND a messenger, let them know the pesky Goodbody family lives in the hills to the north. BILLY HAS SPOKEN!!"

"As you wish, Uncl- I mean, lord."

You watch from the city walls as, in the distance, the Hicks cross the southern bridge unopposed. A single rider approaches them, your representative. Unfortunately, the game is from your perspective, so you miss out on the hilarious conversation taking place safely below.

The rider returns to the city, triumphant. He informs you and the King that the Hicks will be persueing the "Goodbodys", and that you have their thanks.

"There's a few actions we could take, if we so desired:

1: As the Hicks approach Friendly Town, we could come at them from behind, hopefully causing a route, before they learn of our true identity

2: Send a messenger warning the Friendlies to prepare

3: Watch the world burn

4: Hide in the hills around Friendly Town, and ambush the Hicks with the Friendlies

5: Destroy the northern bridge with the enemy on it, somehow. We'll figure out the details later, maybe

1 seems to be the best current option. We dont want to needlessly damage our own infrastructure, and we dont want to cause a diplomatic incident by trlling the friendlies what happened. We got to solve this before it becomes a bigger issue.

Option 1

Option 3

You watch as the events unfold in the valley below. Minutes ago, your uncle gave the go-ahead on Operation Underhanded Rogue One: "Hick's" Go Time!

(You had no say in the naming scheme.)

The war drums beat as the Hicks approach Friendlytown, the sound all but masking the sound of despair from the innocent peasants in the Friendly Hills, and the quiet march of Uncle Billy's own troops.

Thirty yards. Twenty yards. Ten yards.

The forces are a dozen feet away. Smash, crash, the two fronts meet, the Hicks losing a band of archers in the confusion. This is going well.

The enemy line struggles to turn, meeting the opposition.

They collide, the Billy's right flank collapsing.

"Blast these binoculars! They do nothing for your uncle's seeping eye-gout."

"Tactics, tactics! What shall we do, nephew?"

1: Retreat! Sound the horn! We've lost the momentum, and have no reserves for the battle. The friendlies will be alright.

2: Reinforce the right with our swordsmen! It'll have to do.

3: Hold the line! Our men can handle themselves!

4: Kamikaze Archer! Let the cavalry charge, and try to flank them with our unoccupied sword warriors.

Option 2

Ba-roooohhhh, ba-roooooooohhhhhh

The clarion called, signalling for the reserves to make a shift right, to what end they knew not. On the left flank, the Hickish shield warriors made a mad scramble, mostly protected from archer fire by the surrounding hills and brush.

The entire battle line collapses. It's a route! The Hicks have been defeated!

Here's the state of things:

We have lost our two villages and countless fields of grain and corn for the winter (6 fields, actually, so it's not really countless), a few dozen good fighting men, and our dignity. On the plus side, the Friendlies must think highly of us, for swooping in to save them from this unexpected, unprovoked (...) Hickish attack.

"We have a few items we could persue:

1: Our troops would be best utilized fixing the villages and farms, since we have them called anyway. Our economy has taken a beating.

2: Friendly town looks pretty defenseless over there.... We could use another city.

3: We haven't seen the last of the Hickish. We should bolster our defenses!
-A: Construct fortitications on the island! The bridges are our best defense.
-B: Prepare an ambush site from the hills south of the river. Hit them when they're in marching form, not in battle lines.

4: Chase the ba$tards down! They can't be allowed to escape, and warn the Hickish leaders of our dwindling numbers!

OOC: Added health bars for combat succinctity. (It should be a word.)
