Hello people! I think this must be my 1st post here, so here's a big thanks as well to the site and the community for the excellent information and help that these forums give to us all.

I just wanted to point out that Cyrus is a beast. I just can't stop playing with him. Every new game I play (Prince and Monarch) , I am picking Cyrus as a leader as if I am hypnotized. Immortal is a great early UU, Apothecary can really help out with health issues later on with Factories and everything and Imperialistic + Charismatic are two awesome traits since they help out with REXing (cheaper settlers) or Colonizing a continent and you always get extra +1/2 happiness, which is huge (both to grow your cities as builder and to war since War weariness is more manageable with the extra hapiness).

With the Imperialistic + Charismatic combo, I can easily have R3-R4 units out of HE city w/o any XP giving civic or West Point and those units really win wars on their own. Properly promoted, they can win battles (and wars) in fewer numbers, making 2 or 3 SoD viable against campaings.

Also, a fighting GG helps out a lot getting more GGs out with the "Leadership" promotion.

In my last game, with a SoD of 30 men I have taken out arround 300+ units of the same tech-level on average, making Justinian, Peter, Izzy, Zara and Boudi to kiss my feet and beg to Capitulate :-D . Game before that, a dozen Infantry fended off Genghis (and his 3 vassals ) horde of Cavalry, Infantry, Marines and (!!!) TANKS (they came in waves of 20-30 at a time)

I just wanted to see your opinions about Cyrus. What are the greatest moments you had with this guy? Do you think that there is any other leader that can war as good as him? Because surely he makes War look like Art ;-)

Yeah, Cyrus is a good 'un. Onces he's fought a couple of wars and got some GGs he's a monster.

Wouldn't say he's quite the best warmonger. I rate the "hybrid" leaders - those with 1 "military" and 1 "economic" trait, eg Hannibal, Asoka, Sulieman - higher for warmongering (more units and more cities are better than individually stronger units IMO) that the classic "pure" warmongers, but Cyrus is still very effective.

I would play Cyrus more if Darius wasn't so good.

In all fairness, Charismatic is a trait that is half-warmonger, half-builder (that happiness bonus is great no matter what you are doing). So, I'd call Cyrus a 3/4 warmonger.

I'm suprised you put Asoka and Suleiman in that list. Suleiman has Imperialistic, at least, but Asoka? Which is his warmonger trait? Maybe we are just looking at this from different perspectives: here are a couple of my picks for mixed warmonger/economic traits:

I like Alexander myself--the Phalanx is cool, the Odeon receives far too many bonuses to be kosher, and Agg/Phi is a great combo for sacking cities and setting up quick specialist centers to boost your failing economy. Hammurabi's Agg/Org also works for military expansion combined with an economic trait.

I agree on Hannibal, though--I'm actually winning with him right now. My Carthaginian-Sumerian alliance on one continent against the Empire of Burger King on the other. That's right, he took the whole continent.

I always classified it as an all-around trait. But it does have its warmongering uses, I'll grant that.

I say it's good all the time, but it really shines for a warmonger. The ability to completely switch your economy from commerce or specialist heavy to Police State/Vassalage (or Nationalism)/Slavery/Theocracy for building insane armies is sooooo powerful.

Organized is pretty handy for war too (although that's an all-round trait as well). I quite honestly love wage war with Asoka and having the advantage of the fast worker speeds up the process that much more.

Trust me, guys, you'll find no greater disciple of the Spiritual and Organized traits. Spiritual, along with Aggressive, tends to get bashed a little in the threads around here. The only reason why I don't praise Financial, Organized, and Philosophical more is because we all know they are solid traits. But Spiritual is a different animal all together.

Two of my best warmongering games have been with Asoka. Not only because his traits are fantastic for warring at any stage of the game, but the fast worker is also great for it - an early rush with 2 fast workers and a bunch of forests can be 5-10 turns faster than with any other civ - no anarchy for slavery, and each chop is a turn faster. I remember a game where I successfully rushed both Shaka and Wang with Asoka before either knew what hit them, and keeping all the cities thanks to ORG and the 2 pop courthouse whips.
