daft cable modem question

I've leased-to-own a cable modem from my ISP. Now I'm moving, cancelling service with them, and taking the modem with me. Will I be able to use this modem in the future for all my high speed internet (via cable) services?

I.e., "a cable modem is a cable modem, is a cable modem", yes?

Pretty much, yes. There's not really much difference between the cable modems you buy from your ISP and something you can find at WalMart, Best Buy, or Microcenter.

When you set your new service up, just tell them you already have a cable modem. You'll probably need the mac address of it so they can set it up in their system.
