Rate of economic growth in the US compared to Scandinavian countries. Showing that their more generous welfare states does not result in less wealth creation.

Less growth of wealth creation. Norway and its oil aside, the US actually does create more wealth than the Nordic countries.

But who cares? Most of the people see no benefit from that wealth.

What's wrong with assisted suicide?
The usual argument I gear is that old people would feel pressurised to take that option rather than spend their life's savings on living another few years.

I am 100% for assisted suicide, and 100% against the death penalty. I find it depressing that support for both seems essentially equal in the U.S. (since one involves the killing of the innocent and the other a personal choice to end your own life, which I believe should be in your own hands)

Percentage of homes affordable with the Median Income. Note that "median income" is not the national median, it's the median income of each city individually. I had to think about that for a second.

So only one per cent of SF residents can afford to own their own home??

Possibly many residents owned their places before the huge uptick in prices in SF? It is absolutely mindboggling.

No. 1% of San Francisco homes are affordable with a San Francisco median income (than which half of incomes are larger, half are smaller).

A lot less than one per cent then.

50% of San Franciscans still have a higher income than the median.

Yeah, but the point is that a lot of them probably rent.
And have lots of room mates.

A lot of my coworkers have room mates and it never fails to surprise me. A lot of that is because they choose to live in the highest rent areas (by the beach) but housing prices are insane just about everywhere in LA county.

I would love to see Vancouver and Toronto on this map. In Toronto at least none of my friends can afford a house now. An average looking detached house will set you back a million or so. It's insane. I don't think you could get a house in Toronto on a $70,000 salary, you need 2 people making that much I'd think
