Thread for the daimyo of war. I would like to run in this election. Please say if you would like to run.

Candidates

Remake20
Viva Chingon
Azaman333

I would appreciate hearing the candidates' philosophy regarding the position at stake. Just a few lines would be fine; How they view the position's role and how they would facilitate that. No need for a full strategy guide. ;)

Obviously the team's directives must be followed, but the Daimyos will still play an important role in shaping our choices.

I'll work on mine.

My statement for Daimyo or War: I will make sure we are ready for war at all times and I will make sure we invade with unstoppable force. And I will make sure we have lots of exploration and a early (relatively speaking) almost complete map. That is all...

OK, sorry to pick on you Remake, but I need to ask these questions:

  1. How will you make sure we are ready for war at all times?

  2. How will you make sure we invade a team with unstoppable force if it is the Interior minister who controls the cities (at the discretion of the team)

  3. How will you make sure we have lots of explorers, and a good overview of the map?

I would also like to hear more on philosophy!

If I were running for this position, I would certainly be arguing in favor of AH after BW...Chariots make excellent early game explorers and are VERY effective at combating BARBS also.

1. I will have VERY strong defense and a good offense for counter attacks.
2. I will make sure our invasion has A LOT of units and then add some. I will also make sure we have an advantage in tech before we attack.
3. I will set planing routes for each unit and get a lot of fast:move: explorers.

Asking me questions is fine.

The 2 biggest jobs for the Diamyo of War (for now) will be directing the naming of units and guiding discussion of exploration.

I'd really like to hear any candidate's thoughts on how to handle these 2 items in particular.

Remember, the Diamyo doesn't get to make these decisions unilaterally – just help to organize the discussion, solicit opinion, settle any cases where the team can't seem to agree, and post orders for the Shogun.

1. I like naming them after famous explorers from history.
2. I will have a plan for each exploration unit.

I know. I make get carried away with this. So if someone sees me making my own choices without the input of the team PLEASE tell me.

What sort of defense do you anticipate we'll need, and what sort of counter forces do you feel would be necessary?

At the expense of our economy?

Personally, I think it is a waste of effort to set routes for each unit, because each turn new lands are discovered. And how do you intend to keep the fast moving explorers safe? 1 barbarian spearman can kill a chariot or horse archer, and any barbarian can kill a scout.

My statement for Daimyo of War
Thanks, Remake20. I think, if nothing else, it's a good discussion builder to help educate us all.

Also, I'd like to formally nominate Viva_Chingon for Daimyo of War. Although his googly-eyed avatar nearly drove me insane when it first reared its ugly head, Viva has proven to me time and again his ability to be pragmatic, consider opposing views, and organize his thoughts in a coherent manner. These traits will serve this office and team SANCTA well.

1. I suspect at least 4-7 defensive units per city and 1-4 offensive units per city.

2. I will need some gold. In civ 4 is there a military support cost when you have so many units?

3. General Route not exact. I'm thinking about an early barracks.

Here is a general plan for the first explorers.

I would like to know how we will prepare for a dogpile?

Train a meaner dog. Grrrrr!

explorer #1 would currently be going i nthe opposite direction of the will of the team..... please justify :)

Now that i think about it I would like him to go SE and have another explorer go there. :)

I shall nominate myself.

OK, sorry to pick on you Remake, but I need to ask these questions:

How will you make sure we are ready for war at all times?

I anticipate having mobile stacks of catapults and horse archers to counter any large stacks sent our way. Axes and Spears will be more of a backup force, since they aren't as mobile, and can't kill off large stacks of seige weapons unlike HAs.

How will you make sure we invade a team with unstoppable force if it is the Interior minister who controls the cities (at the discretion of the team)

I trust the interior minister will supply the army with sufficient troops to successfully wage war. Our attack force would involve 50% catapults, with 30% axes, and a mix of horse archers, swords and spears depending on the defender's resources and actual units.

How will you make sure we have lots of explorers, and a good overview of the map?[/list]

As barbarians are on, it will likely be difficult for the true 2 move units to move around safely. However, Woodsman II Axes and (maybe) Guerilla II Archhers should be able to get around fast without facing too much of a threat from barbarians.

The 2 biggest jobs for the Diamyo of War (for now) will be directing the naming of units and guiding discussion of exploration.

I'd really like to hear any candidate's thoughts on how to handle these 2 items in particular.

Unit names could be either just for flavour, or they could be descriptive. If we choose flavour, things could get confusing, but descriptive could give more information to our rivals than they would otherwise have.

With exploration, I anticipate our current warrior to attempt to circle around the mountain range. Quick question, how long do we have before the barbarians start appearing, and how much longer after that do we have until they start targeting cities? I think it's important we know how open the land to the east is, so we can prepare adequately for the barbarians, as to the west we have a nice corridor that should be fairly easy to protect.

Remember, the Diamyo doesn't get to make these decisions unilaterally – just help to organize the discussion, solicit opinion, settle any cases where the team can't seem to agree, and post orders for the Shogun.

Sounds good!

There is a very high probability that we will be ganged up on by the other teams. At least two teams if not more. I would consider it a certainty. I've seen DaveMcW hold off around four teams in a pitboss game so I'd like to know how our military advisor would do the same or better.

I would second Azzaman.
