Dangers of passive smoking outdoors?

I once read that passive smoking still held a considerable health risk even when both were outside.

I can, however, not find any article or research to support such, so if anyone would help out by indulging me in one or several investigations regarding the matter ... :)

No, you have it backwards. Complaining about passive smoke outdoors is dangerous to your health if you're more than 20-25 feet away from me.

Word! And I don't even smoke anymore. If you're out side unless its a stagnant humid windless day the PPM ratio of smoke to air is going to be negligible.

Given a certain distance I'm sure of that, but situated a few feet or inches from a smoking person I'd be compelled to assume that it would be have some effect - how big it is is to be answered by the sought after research. :)

I think you should probably be more worried about the exhaust coming from the nearest river of internal combustion engines.

They are like rivers, aren't they? Not individual cars emitting a puff, but a constant, long line of emission.

As a person who has asthma, I cannot stand how smokers plop themselves right in front of the doors for shops/restaraunts and puff away. But hey, its a free country, right?

there still is danger of inhaling secondhand smoke, although distance and humidity and whatnot could alter the severity of the damage.

well anytime you inhale smoke of any sort it's bad for you. but unless you're invading a smokers personal space trying to directly inhale their sidestream for 30 years it probably isn't going to matter in the long run

agreed. you probably won't die from secondhand smoke outdoors unless you make it a point of crossing smokers 20 times a day every day for thirty years. indoor secondhand smoke, however, thats a different story

Day-yum (I got that from someone here)

VRWC and Jolly are on a roll!

Ugh, not this crap again...

just don't smoke in dry areas

Passive smoking outside can lead to an asthma attack: personal experience.

I don't know whether it's because cars emit their noxious fumes at high temperatures (so that they rise away from us quickly), or whether the extra distance makes a big difference, but tobacco smoke lingers for at least 10 metres along a pavement.

If I walked around with a canister of hydrogen cyanide and had the valve slightly open I'm fairly sure that everyone on the street would keep a big distance from me and the police would soon arrive to take me away. Maybe do me for toxic dumping.
If, on the other hand, I merely burn a cigarette and release not only cyanide but a host of other vile chemicals, somehow I am entitled to be indignant and self-righteous about my activity, and act as though others should love my abuse of our country's freedoms.
