Well, after having mapfinder run for three days and playing two games until 1500BC I have found a map which I'll be taking to 1000BC and then decide if I'll take it to 10AD, the big decision point...

Settings:
Huge/archipelago/warm/wet/5 billion
Sedentary barbs and 8 scientific AI's
I'm playing as the ninth scientific civ: the Sumerians
Domination limit: around 4370 tiles
Start 1 wheat and 1 game in the first nine tiles
Another wheat and game and 2 cattle at most 5 tiles away. Spices around 10-12 tiles away.

Wish me luck! :)

I'm still not into milking, so all I have to say is - have fun, and may darkness blind your opponents!

I'll be taking this one all the way.

At 10AD I was lagging behind Drazeks no1 game (by 36 points) but already closing the gap with him after his fantastic start (55 point difference in 550 BC).

At 10 AD I was also 6-7 turns away from starting my GA, which helped greatly in completion of Bach's, Magellan's, SunTZu's, Leo's, Copernicus' and Newtons in my core.

Now (350 AD) my Ga will end shortly, but I'm nearing the end of the Middle Ages, and all those free techs (lots of scientific civs) will get me steam power, so I can double back for MT and eliminate the AI.

My only problem: Like Drazek, only 2 luxuries... :(

Yeah, lacking luxes hurt. Would you believe I had a gigantic map, and I had high hopes of a good game for my second attempt, but... no luxes at all on the continent-ette I started on.. C3C living up to it's reputation.

Good luck with the rest of the game, it sounds good!

I'm tinkering with some Warlord starts (as the Dutch) with 12 opponents rather than 8, to see if this makes luxuries easier to come by...it certainly helps as far as strategic resources go. I would have to think long and hard before squaring up against 12 Emperor AI though.

Good luck, Darkness.

I hope you stay away from monarch level. At least give me a change to enjoy my top score for a month. :D

No problems there... :)

With the COTM and my warlord game I have enough to keep me occupied to the end of the year, I think...
Though with the delay in HoF updates... one never knows.... :D

Darkness, you know, I've been to Rotterdam 8 years ago for 5 days!
Just noticed this detail.. :mischief:
GL!

It's not that bad boogaboo. That location has only been in my profile for maybe the last six weeks, 'cause that's when I moved back to my hometown after finishing college. ;)

Nice city, isn't it? :)

Yep, although I never understood what's so good in houses made of wood..
I tried Hashish the first time there, but I really still prefer pot.

People are usually nice, and getting high is cheap. ;)
Travelling has a high price tag, but that's ok, since from my view, we're paying Gaia (Earth) for the damage we're doing.

Amsterdam still has more places to hang out.
I wanna go back!!!

I'm gaining on Drazek!

In 10 AD I was still 36 points behind Drazek at the same date. In 500 AD that difference has been reduced to 12 points. :) I don't think I'll beat his score though, 'cause his domination limit was about 60 tiles larger than mine is! (4435 (Drazek) vs 4373 (me) ) :(

The game:
Just researched MT, and have upgraded some 30 horseman to cavs (Leo's was very helpful here :) ). Declared war on Korea (closest) and Persia (1 lux, also very close).
In 520 AD I got banking and I entered the Industrial age. The scienticif civs gave me medicine and steam power (but wouldn't give me nationalism), so I feared I'd get that as my free tech, butI was lucky and got electricity.
Mayor disappointmement: No coal in my lands. Solution: attack Ottomans, who have one source in a border town near me. I was marching a dozen cavalries towards them anyway, because they also have two luxuries. :)
So I can probably start building RR soon. Now I only need to research replacable parts and sanitation and then I'll go for zero science until I've rush built everything I need...
