    Can you tell me what you are doing?

    To repeat, you use git clone once to get the folder, then use git pull (or git synch or however Tortoise calls it) to update. Errors like the one you have sound like there are conflicts between changes you made and the changes about to be downloaded from the repo, which should not happen if you leave those files untouched.

    I am pretty sure I have never touched and changed those files. I go TortioiseGit and then Fetch. Usually when I do this nothing happens or I get the above error.

    I tried fixing it today by doing a complete wipe and downloading it again. That seems to be the only way I can get updates now, so I have had to download the entire mod several times recently.

    My latest download seems unusual though? I don't see civ unique names anymore except in diplomacy windows, and I can't play anything beyond I think the Maya in the 3000bc scenario.

    Russian strategy now:

    Research guilds, then beeline for education (GS bulb philosophy). Settlers become powerful after Renaissance era.

    Tips for flipping: don't found Moscow on turn 1 yet. 1 settler go 2E2S. Turn 2, found Carycin(capital) and Moscow, gift Moscow to Viking or Arab. Turn 3, you'll flip Moscow and get culture, with luck you can get a free army. With these you can capture Kiev and Buda easily.

    Turn to slavery and whip pagan temple. 3 horse archers go capture Merv & Samarkand, should get 1-2 workers. M&R whip workers, HA go on capture Arab workers. Leave M&R to Seljuks.

    Capitulate Poland and Vikings. Counter Mongols with knights, then it will be easy. Use cottage economy and get democracy, you'll be very rich even after communism.

    How does the Superspies mod work exactly? I'm trying to learn how to use espionage properly, but experience appears to be gained extremely slowly. Stealing treasury did not give any experience at all, more expensive missions only yielded one point. Is it just very expensive to accumulate experience, or am I missing something?

    How is the difficulty of a mission calculated? Is it on the basis of chance of succes? Raw chance of success or chance of success after promotions? Raw espionage points spent or adjusted points spent? When I stole the Compass it still only gave 1 experience point.

    Having probably my best ever game so far (only playing on Heir mind :D) Tamils in the 20th century controlling all of the Deccan (but not Mughal India), Indonesia, Burma, Iran, Oman and Transoxiana without any sign of collapse. Managed to successfully repel invasions from France, Holland and Portugal who all attempted to invade Indonesia and Vietnam (my Vassal). Used Naval Supremacy and Trafalgar Square to build up some mighty Privateers which have been upgraded now into Blitz destroyers.

    You guys probably would do way better buts its fun to see some progress.

    How did any of you get the 12 cities required for Poland to fulfil its 3rd UHV? I've got to 8 but it looks like war is my only choice now to claim a few neighbours' cities?

    Building cathedrals of several religions works too. You start Catholic, Orthodoxy spreads sooner or later, then Protestantism and Judaism come along, and there is a small probability (actually probably not, in fact I haven't seen it myself) that Islam spreads to you lands. Obviously you should choose tolerate the new sects with the Reformation so you don't lose either religion. Whenever a new religion appears in one of your cities, spread it as much as possible within all of them. You only need four cities to build all the cathedrals but you can build or conquer more to finish the job earlier.





    Speaking of another issue, I have a problem and if I don't solve it I will have wasted my time: I wanted to play as Mughals with an Indian subcontinent as enhanced as possible, so I started my game as Harappans and then switched to Indians. I was asked if I wanted to take control of some newborn civilizations, but there were some I wasn't asked about, and one of them was Mughals. I tried with gifting Delhi and all the other cities in their spawn area to other civs but that still didn't work.
    How do I take control of the Mughals then?

    I think you can only switch civilizations once.

    As for Poland, I achieved the UHV (I only play Heir lol) by settling Krarkow, Memel (can't remember the Polish name as it flipped to Prussia and is now Klajepda), and Danzig originally and also conquering Kijow for the +12 populations. After that I settled Lwow, Wilno, Sevastopol and Tallinn to help build up some more Temples for Cathedrals.

    After the UHV conquered Independent Buda and took T'ver and Moscow off Russia. Now into the 20th Century and have a very strong Stockholm with 2 GGs and Academy, plus 2 Scientists and an Artist settled (thats what I conquered). I re-conquered Danzig from Prussia and captured Magdeburg. I could have claimed more from them but expansion is killing me so ended the war (I only wanted Danzig, damn congresses) so gifted that to Austria (who annoyingly Vassalised to Italy during the War) and had to give Belgrade to Greece just to curb the expansion costs, which immediately became their capital despite a size 15 Athens?! As long as I keep Buda's Oil I'm happy. I also have a City in Karelia that I forget the name of.

    I actually used Ironclads this war too :D Mainly because in the Baltics their movement restrictions are not an issue and Germany just suicide all their Frigates into it :D

    There's no need to spread Judaism and Islam because only Christian Cathedrals count.

    Welcome to the club; I almost always play on Heir, and still lose most of the time. But it's still a very fun game, either historical roleplaying or playing ethically (no slavery etc.).
