On the topic of genocide, wouldn't it be cool if we could create concentra... internment camps that would increase conversion to your culture and decrease conversion to other civs cultures.

Well, Leoreth has already added Hitler and removed the Jews, so he might as well march the full eighty eight miles.

You spent an hour rerolling to get the city placements you wanted when you could just go in Worldbuilder and spend 5 minutes doing it yourself...

How does "foreign" stability work exactly ? In a game I am suffering a lot of instability from 'neighbors' when playing China. How to reduce this ?

    Sorry. :(

It wasn't meant to be funny.

It was an honest suggestion of internment camps, but I can see how that could offend others.

I have for now given up on trying to get my modmod to run with Git (guess I'll just now and then merge it manually with the most recent version) and will only use my fork to pull request minor fixes even someone brainwashed by capitalist propaganda can't disagree with, like whatever it was I did for Mohawks.

Anyhow, I have now located Victoria's diplo text, but am unsure about two things:

    1.:
What to correct her introduction to? Currently it's "Good day to you, [CT_NAME]. We are [OUR_NAME], ruler of [OUR_CIV_SHORT]. Please do not hesitate to call upon us if you need assistance - God commands us give aid and comfort to our inferiors...". Would adding a "to" between "us" and "give" be in order? Additionally, should I capitalize all instances of "us" and "our" because Pluralis Majestatis?

    2.:
Should I copy the whole file which contains all diplo texts for all Vanilla leaders and edit the copy, or should I make a new file like Victory_Diplo_Fix and just copy the relevant bits into that?

Also I have been unable to locate the position of Bolivar's diplo texts (his introduction message is missing completely), if they even exist?

Look for something in the DoC files that seems leader related, and put the text key there.

What is the minimum screen resolution requirement for playing DOC?

I'm going to be replacing my current laptop, which currently has a 1366x768 resolution -- the minimum required to play vanilla Civ IV and BTS. It used to work for DoC as well, but ever since the latest SVN, the edges of the civics screen have been cut off, so there's clearly a resolution issue there somewhere. The rest of the game still works fine, but I'd prefer to be able to see the full screen when I play.

    Thanks!

Ha! I knew it! I said the new civics screen sucks, but Leoreth wouldn't listen!

I was gone for two months at boot camp and my favorite economy civic got wrecked.

Mercantilism is worse now. Painfully so. The old mercantilism allowed me to run a huge gold per turn surplus in the late game when I stopped researching, which allowed for all kinds of crazy conquering. Which reminds me, I'll have to download the finished 1.12 so I can finish a Mongol game of mine where I intended to raze every other city in the game.

From my perspective, most of the civics columns have only a few real late game options - the rest are not that helpful.

For government, Theocracy or Autocracy are the ways to go. Republic is only good if you spawn late, and you run a town economy. Dynasticism is only good before you get the others, unless you're southeast asian in which case you may need the happiness. City states... is city states. It's a lifestyle.

For organization, you should run totalitarianism the second you can. It saves you so much in maintenance costs unless you're a tiny civ. Vassalage and absolutism are situationally powerful - getting a third promotion or having few cities/a great capital. Representation went from generally good to useless in a recent update, and egalitarianism is pointless - late game you don't need more production.

For labor, Agrarianism is great the entire game (farms are an underrated improvement) and Capitalism is great too if you elect to run a town economy. Public Welfare is almost worth using at this point, slavery is a transitional civic at best, and industrialism gives production.. which you don't really need unless you're Indonesia or something of the like, and good luck getting that far in the tech tree.

For economy, most of these are terrible. Environmentalism is by far the best, even though the -30% unhealthiness is slightly broken (takes away far less). Free Market is ok, but doesn't do that much, as the corporation yield bonus doesn't seem to work, or is not displayed in the city screen at the very least. Guilds and Central Planning are awful, literally not worth their upkeep, and mercantilism is a "why not?" civic while you research up to ecology.

For religion, aside from gimmick strategies (like secularism rushing for wonders) Organised Religion, Fanaticism, and Scholasticism are equally as good as each other, and far better than any alternative. Organised Religion is good for expansionist or colonial powers up to a certain point. Fanaticism is the best military civic in the late game, as it allows for faster buildup of air units and missiles. Scholasticism is excellent if you're running a specialist economy, as more specialists leads to more super specialists at an even faster rate. Secularism's 10% research is kinda ephemeral, but if you're too lazy to persecute religions that's about the only time it's good.

For military civics, run standing army or naval supremacy, whichever fits your geographical area and aspirations. Multilateralism tries hard but ultimately the fact you have to make multiple defensive pacts with AIs to benefit makes it pointless. The AIs will break agreements for little reason and the late game has too many hostilities for this to work well, but someone might get lucky. Levy Armies can be used at the very, very end of the game to lower upkeep costs.

I realize these are pretty opinionated statements but I have the reasons and playtime to back them up. If you want to know the nitty gritty details behind why I don't like a civic go ahead and ask.

By the way, in that Mongol game I was running Autocracy/Totalitarianism/Agrarianism/Environmentalism/Scholasticism/Standing Army.
I wonder what that country is like.

You are not the only one, comrade, why, I even made my own modmod in order to rectify the brainwashing of Leoreth by capitali-

Oh, right, yeah, Mercantilism sucks too I guess.

To be fair, Guilds is good to get up some valuable infra- oh right, Markets suck in base DoC. :mischief:

I for one would most definitely like to hear what this poor, downtrodden, innocent victim of Leoreth's liberal propaganda rampage has to say about the current civics crisis. Go on, Leoreth in his compromised state might not listen, but I will. :)

Khmer Rouge with an ecologial spin? Wearing glasses and failure to properly recycle both carry the death penalty.

The reason for this is that the dimensions of this screen are absolute values, not values relative to the screen size.

Well no one answered my question so I am asking again.

Also, what would contribute to a positive expansion stability?

Doesnt that just mean that your neighbours are unstable?

You can never get a positive expansion stability.

The "neighbors" instability is caused by having open borders and sharing a border with a collapsing civ. All those damn refugees lower your stability.

You can never gain stability from the expansion category. If it isn't negative you're doing it right :king:

To Knoedel, I haven't run Central Planning since 1.11, because all throughout 1.12 it just wasn't as good as the alternatives.

Thanks this clears up the foreign stability. For the expansion, how is the maximum threshold calculated ? For example, I am playing rennaissance age France and three core cities with size 16(Bordeaux),17(Paris) and 13(Marseill). How far can I expand with this ?

Well, if it says "87/188" you still have some population to go. How each pop point is calculated depends on what kind of area you are settling in. Lower values for each pop point in historical areas.

I just had this thought but wasn't sure if it could work. I installed the mod with the varietas delectat and ethnic skins addition but not the other features. I am interested in installing the ethnic music addition now. Can I install this separately ? Or will this cause problems if I attempt at a second installation ?
