Defender of the Faith gives a 20% combat bonus to units near 'friendly Cities that follow this Religion'. What counts as a friendly city and how many tiles around the city does it count? Do your own cities count as friendly or just foreign ones?

I know you have to be inside the borders for this effect. And as far as I know the city must follow your religion. Works for naval units too. so positioning matters.

Sorry to revive this super-old thread, but what is the range on DotF? 1 ring? 2 rings? Thanks.

At least two, and it doesn't work in enemy territory AFAIK.
