I have played so much Civ5 over the years (maybe not so many hours) but I just recently started to think about the word "defending" in some texts in the game, like, I can now choose "Cover 2" on my trebuchet, it says that it has "25% more combat strength defending against ranged attacks".
What does that mean in reality, I always understood that as if the unit is getting attacked by a city or cannon/other ranged non-aircraft, it gets a 25% defensive bonus, whatever action it took on your turn before.
But does it really mean that this bonus only get applied if the unit was fortified on your turn?
I'm playing vox populi, but it should not matter, maybe the numbers are a bit different just.
