Citizens, the NUF Empire of 1950 BC is vast, and my department must have new office space for the next term. And we must choose names for these provinces. Vote wisely, and remember, the strength of our Democratic Process is that we can always change this later!

The first province, tentatively called Aonia, contains our Capital, Regia Civitas, TFalls, the new Filler City, Elysium, the planned 2Whales, and any other nearby cities, except:

The second province, River, contains DellHam, the planned River Bend to be called Reneaux, and I suggest the planned River Mouth, as well as all nearby cities.

But Marl Downs? It's a puzzle. You may vote once, hopefully for more than one option. Be kind!

How about this for our provincal borders?

Also, I think we should keep the Martian theme...

Octavian's borders look good to me, too. I only wonder about the River Bend, a good city site, and it seems he specs it in the Capitol Province. I thought the Dellham Province, since it's a quick walk down the River.

Btw, the Barsoom idea is to name the Provinces Alphabetically...

The original list was: Aonia, Chryshe, Isidis, Hesperia, Solis, Xanthe - and then people commented to add Barsoom, a "B".

Naming the Provinces

I see Little Nemo is leading the poll, which is nice.

A day has past, and only the original half dozen citizens have voted.

One item confuses me. Someone voted for Aonia, Bxxx , but I cannot find a post with an alternative name for Bxxx. So now we have 3 votes for Chryshe, and 4 votes for Bxxx. At this point, Bxxx is Barsoom.

Were there more than 6 provinces in the prior Democ Game? That may be why some have suggested alphabetically, Bsomething, making Chryshe the name of the third Province. The Third Province will someday separate Marl Downs from the Second Province.

We need nominations for Governor of the Second Province.

There were quite a few provinces in the last demo game, most governors had two provinces. :crazyeye: I think there were like 8 or 9???
Provinces will (later on in the game) contain about 6 or 7 cities so the mainland will be divided in 2 or 3 provinces.

Remember that we're playing on a normal-sized map this time, and not a large one like in the first game.
We will probably end up with quite a few provinces anyway, just not as many as last time. If we have 10 or so cities per province then we shouldn't need too many governors, but obviously some provinces will require more work than others. We'll just have to wait and see what we need to do. Shall we do what we did last time, with the Domestic Advisor as governor of the capital province (or maybe even the province of his/her choice?) and the power to overrule recommendations of other governors where necessary?

I support the idea of bigger provinces than last time as two provinces on one continent can be a pain as the decisions for cities of one province can influence what happens with cities of the other province. At this time this is not the case as Dellham and Marl Downs are so far away from the rest that they can be treated as being on another continent. Once we have railroad this will change of course. :)

Octavian's borders look good to me, too! At least until we add more cities and can clearly define where these borders are and can tell how many cities are within each province.

Merely a little disagreement, because of which I voted other:

> Marl Downs in River now, but we need a third Province ASAP

Don't think it needs to be so soon, but eventually.

I like the province borders, Octavian. And where IS Homer?

In the last game we effectively had 3 large provinces and for one or two weeks we had two provinces completely ungoverned. Then Mr Spice (I believe) joined the game and took control of two provinces whilst I had the other one, so these provinces are quite small but they can always expand outwards.

Perhaps a little adjusment to Octavian's map would be good. I'd say that Dellham, river bend and river mouth should all be in the same province. Other than that I have no preference.

Okay then, taking in what a few people have suggested and my own thoughts, here's a mini proposal. Aoinia and Chryse as already chosen and Boreum in a Marshan region beggining with B hence it's inclusion. I also found one beggining with D to fill the gap, Daedalia.

I think mordheim's borders cut Aolina out a little bit. I moved up the border there for that reason. Also, Dellham's province needs to follow that river, just so the borders at least look like they were drawn following geographic features.

subliminal message
octavian x for president

I don't think that there is any point for the time being. Two of the provinces only have one city in, with another to be built on the river bend. I would also like to see the provinces bigger, or at least expanded later on in the game when we have more cities. The capital province will only have four decent sized cities in, and as many fillers as Gary can persuade us to build! ;) Hardly a governing challenge. Once we have begun to colonise other continents then I'd like to see the land we have at the moment split between only two provinces.

That's the spirit, Duke! And when the Capital Province is filled with Fillers, I'll look elsewhere ... actually, I'm looking elsewhere right now!

Martian list is now:
Aonia, Boreum, Chryshe, Daedalia ... Isidis, Hesperia, Solis, Xanthe

So, these maps are very interesting, but the new government must repoll, building on this thread. I liked Octavians' original effort, helping us to visualize the 3 idea. I now prefer Mordhiem's recent effort -- it cleverly combines many other ideas. Why isn't he running for Domestic Advisor?

But now you say, only two provinces. The people seem to want 3. And can't one person govern 2 provinces, unless we have a ground swell of participation and many want to be a Governor? It is a natural step from Governor to Domestic Advisor.
