Omg this is the most insane diety game yet.

SV in 352 turns lol! Just keep in mind this was a SV with Autocracy ideology and constantly bribing Zulu and at war with Songhai for a good half of the game.

Only 4 civs left. Me, Zulu, Rome and Austria. Thank god Austria and Rome are at war.

Austria declared war on me but she is too far away and it is too late.

Bomb shelters are up. Zulu staring me down.

215gpt in unit maintenance. I wasn't taking any chances with Zulu. Any late game DoW was going to be met with stiff resistance.

After dispatching Songhai I sold one of his cities to Maria for some nice +gpt she later razed it lol. I kept Gao but kept it a puppet for too long and the AI kept it a gold focused city with no specialist in science buildings for a long time so I finally annexed it around t300. I had two RAs total I believe...both with Zulu :) If I had annexed Gao sooner and gone food focus it could have turned into a solid science generating city but since I was struggling with +cpt so I kept it puppeted for mostly that reason.

I think what really saved my arse was the long war between Zulu and Rome. After Shaka took my first bribe and slapped Lizzy I was able to bribe him to attack Rome next. I think that went on till around turn 240ish when Rome beat up Zulu pretty good and took over as the most powerful civ. After that I had to alternate bribing Shaka between Ethiopia and Austria and when Rome took down Ethiopia I was glad Zulu fought Austria for as long as he did.

Rome totally owned Ethiopia and was ahead of me in a SV and I was sweating it the whole way after he built 3 boosters before I built even one but I think he switched to a CV focus since he built only 1 more SS part after that. Was easy bribing Zulu to attack Austria and Ethiopia but once Ethiopia was gone I had to pray he stayed at war with Austria as long as possible. I forget which turn but he eventually did sign a peace treaty with her and there was nothing I could do to bribe him to attack Rome that late in the game so I had to just hope he wouldn't attack me but even if he did I think I could have held him off till the final SS part was built.

Built as many forts near Zulu as I could just in case. WC I had 17 votes, Rome had 17, 6 each for Austria and Zulu so wasn't worried about a DV since 28 was needed.

SP: Full tradition, 2 in patronage up to consulates, 1 in commerce(what a waste), full rationalism, 2 in Autocracy. Even though I ended up with +132cpt, most of the game it was pretty low and about midway I started building +cpt buildings to pump it up. Only one culture CS survived in the end. Many CS were taken over by civs.

Religion: Goddess of Festivals, Tithe, Religious Community, Holy Warriors(should have picked up +happiness building lol), IP. Was nice buying two scientists with faith but the 3rd was going to cost me 2500.

No workers stolen but seriously the whole argument is just stupid and I hope people can put that one to rest.

    Pic of victory.

Getting a city state to take the last city is also possible.

    Beat it! t285 SV.

    Spoiler :
Went 4-city Tradition and got all the good spots around my cap. The English actually put up a good fight against Shaka for a while, which bought me a lot of time to put up infrastructure, and I teched up extremely quickly throughout the game. Could've got the win a lot faster, but I made some odd choices and misplays (the one that stands out the most is that I simply forgot to build the Heroic Epic and Gardens in every city, which is absolutely stupid, and that cost me AT LEAST 2 GSs and 1 of each GWAM).

Cap BO: 2xScout - Granary - ToA - 3xSettler. I stole two Workers off England early, got another one off a barb camp (originally from a CS - can't remember which one), and used them to chop off the forests around the cap; I got ToA up by turn 35 or so. I'd actually have gotten the Great Library if I went for it, LOL; the AI only built it at around 40.

Tech: Pottery > Archery > Calendar > AH > Sailing. Got Mining off a hut. Sent both trade routes to Shaka as soon as I finished up the Settler spam - that probably helped appease him early.

Policies: Tradition open > Legalism > Aristocracy > Monarchy > Landed Elite > Piety open > Mandate of Heaven > Organized Religion. Shaka almost never founds a religion, and with Elizabeth under the gun I assumed she'd not get one either, so I thought going Piety would ensure I'd get at least one side of the continent flipped (which I did). The order in which I've picked the Tradition policies was dictated by the game; I opened it with a hut, got my Monument with Legalism, then went Monarchy before Landed Elite because I'd be spamming Settlers early.

This is also an example of map where Consulates is bad, so it's a better than usual opportunity to try Piety for a change. :p

Religion: Goddess of Festivals > World Religion > Mosques > Religious Community > Itinerant Preachers. I'd rather have Monasteries and/or Pagodas, but Ethiopia took both :( . Oddily (or stupidly), he didn't went for Sacred Sites, which I picked VERY late, even though he was going Culture hard - Haile took most of the cultural Wonders.
Also of note here, I'm pretty sure that on Deity Itinerant Preachers is 99% of the time better than Religious Texts.

Wonders: Early on, I built ToA and Oracle. Later, I was teching very fast (all my expansion cities had Observatories), but was still afraid of Impis, so instead of the usual tech route I went through the bottom of the tree all the way to Military Science, picking up the Himeji Castle and Brandenburg Gate just in case Shaka decided to stop taking my bribes. He never did, though.

I also won the World's Fair early, and I'm pretty sure I'd lose the game to Haile if I didn't. Without a SINGLE TURN of open borders or a trade route with me, he got to Popular, and was Influential with most other civs (except Rome, I think) - that was actually the closest I've ever seen an AI get to a cultural win.

Fun game overall. Looking forward to the next DC!

    I'm loving this thread.

Looking at Tabernaks expansion I was wondering how he was going to keep his cities safe, with the army marching to Ethiopia. As a solution you're probably looking at keeping everyone else at war or complete kills. Civilization is really a different game once you have a mountain range and an ocean in your back. As history teached us, you can't fight a multiple front war.

    Turn 282 SV ;) go faster ;)

Did basically the same as megafone...

    Spoiler :
I tried the same "peaceful" approach as megafone described.
I was not able to snatch a worker from england early but got one from Askia and one from a CS.
Still i skipped ToA and hard build all 3 settlers to get them in useful spots.
After that i bribed all game long.
The Zulu were fighting England/Rome/Askia/Ethopia all the time. He could not finish of England so i had a trade partner more ,)

Around turn 75 Askia marched an army towards me but i could divert his target to Austria...

Got the Wine and Incense Thingy, got World Church and Monasteries when founding and enhanced with Religious community and IP.
I could get my part of the landmass under my religious control which made a huge impact in the Culture gain (about 40-60 cpt)

The rest of the game was quite peaceful, got Oracle, PT and Hubble and as Ideologies rose the game got more and more chaotic and a real warzone.
When the Zulus started to denounce me i build some emergency units and Bombers but they never attacked.

All in all a peaceful game ;) Missed some RAs and misstimed my faith buying a bit but all in all a good finishing time i guess.

Nice guys! Really amazing how these games turn out. Ethiopia got punked in my game but thrived in yours. Only 3 civs remained in my game lol.

I really wanted to go for a peaceful solution and I still don't know why I couldn't bribe Songhai but you guys could. That really set the slow tone for me and going Autocracy and low +cpt, few RAs really hurt me the rest of the way.

If I have time I'm going to try this again, see if I can find a peaceful solution, pick Order or Freedom instead of Autrocarcy and pick of World Church for the extra cpt.

Yea I'm not proud of it, but it is what it is, and given the circumstances I had to make the most of what I had including poor choices on ideology and low cpt I'm not going to argue with the win. I don't know how you expect anyone to beat down on the AIs in any SV when the civs have hundreds of units and 30k gold to buy endless amounts more at that stage of the game.

Going to try again, pretty sure I can get a 280ish SV like the others if I can go peaceful all the way and not pick autocracy this time duh.

im not blaiming you, a win is a win :) but im just saying that if you dont declare war on the AI and take cities/raze and wake havoc in their lands, they should win before that date with SV/CV/diplo

Gave this one a try without reading any spoilers.

The early game I focused on allying up the CSs, so went Consolate right after Liberty Free Settler, 3 scouts to quickly find all CS in the game. I was able to keep Shaka busy by bribing him to war against England. I stole 2 English workers and it did not impact my diplo with her lol.

So quickly I befriended many Military CS, and had a competent defensive force without building a single military unit (after the initial 2 archers to bust barb camps). Also did all CS quests as best as I could so I always had 4+ CS allies. I think this helps to deter the AIs on dowing me since these CSs all had good military forces.

Went Liberty and quickly settled 4 cities, grabbed Oracle late, focused on infrastructure, econ, religion and culture, NC around T105.

Saved Liberty free GP until I popped the first GE from Capital, so had 2 quick consecutive GEs to rush Porcelain and Big Ben.

Had a few other bribes and joined a War with AC against Ethiopia.

Now I have superior CS units against neighbor AIs, so are in a complete safe position to build up to an Autocracy powered war to sweep the AIs.

    Current situation at T172:

    1. First to adopt Ideology, will go Autocracy and grab cheap buying, fast spying and 25% cheaper units+15XP tenets

    2. Will also adopt 25% buying discount from Commerce. So will have a combined 73% discount on unit buying with Big Ben. (A Great War bomber will only cost 390 gold :D)

    3. Have 4 RAs (one with Shaka too lol) + Porcelain to power research bombers and etc. Might try getting Brandenberg Gate in capital to build/buy 75XP units.

    4. Will keep Shaka around for all the trade routes (including his multiple routes to me), so probably will get him last. Otherwise, all pretty healthy.

    5. Have a strong religion getting 40+ gpt from Tithe, enhanced with Religious text to spread it quickly. also had pagodas+monesteries. now have so much faith, forgot to buy an GProphet to help spread more.

    6. Rome and Ethiopia are pretty big, but they are at war, have one spy in each country.

    7. Currently have 7 CS allies, and all other friendly.

    T213

    Current situation:

    Spoiler :

    1. Took out Askia with Arty/Cossacks/Gatling. Got 261G + 65GPT from the peace deal.

    2. Research/stealing my way up to flight, just bought 7 Great War bombers (390G each), getting more oil online in 3 turns and will buy more. With Autocracy, stealing techs at twice the rate and all units built get 3 promotions

    3. 9 CS allies

    4. Healthy econ and cpt while supporting a large army. Capital gets close to 100 hpt.

It will be easy to take out Autria, Ethiopia, Venice, Shaka (still fighting with Impies :) ) and England. AC will be a potent foe, but will not be much problem to take him out while getting him into multiple wars and use my superior air power, veteran units and human tactics.
