Me neither... Shoshone workers are really hard to steal and huge borders means I can't see inside what's going on (but Rome is a nice target with CS as buffer; he has the habit of sending settlers unescorted past them... and his caravans always go to those 2 CS... Greece is just too damn far away with treacherous terrain and I always see hoplites around them)

Are you going for culture or domination by any chance?

Had Alex dow'd me once... quite late around t100+; however due to the large abundance of military CS it was quite easy to defend actually (terrain certainly helped); he went for my jungle city which was behind a river to the east; his troops just kept trying to suicide themselves past the river to get a surround and it was really easy pickings for my CB.

Poca? Well... I blocked his settlers heading for the east jungle with my units and I guess his AI brain just froze lol. He never did anything meaningful after that and just kinda faded away into the background.

I can't believe everyone is going for a peaceful victory with Assyria!

Too bad I need some other DLC to play this. I'm not sure which one to get either.

Your right it does seem odd to play peacemonger with this civ but the way BNW is set up these days it seems playing for peace early/mid game is easier. I just recently had a game as England in a tough spot close to two civs. I almost wiped out Indonesia but decided to sell off 2 cities to India and let Indo keep one city. Long story short, the warmonger hate from taking those two cities and Capital so early pissed off the entire world. I had to go through almost perma war with 3 to 4 civs the rest of the game. I ended up blasting off to space after t300 but the game was a major headache for me. I do think this game for me is going to head into a war very soon. ( I usually don't have games where 4 or 5 civs decalre war on me the whole game but that was a pain. I couldn't bribe, trade, or RA with anyone that game. )

I was coveted by Shoshone and Greece but getting caravans and embassys with them early negates all that hate. Also in my game like I said before Russia and Austria teamed up on Alex taking any kind of attack out of his plan towards me. Russia took 2 of his cities and basically beat the piss out of him, I think this 2nd war with those two will take him out of the game but Russia will be a powerhouse.

Although I see your point, for me it is just fun to have a game where others are playing and posting what they did. It helps make my games more fun I suppose. I almost play a full game a day and its nice to share it with you all here. When I play games that I set up daily I never have a VC I just play it out and kinda decide in the early/mid game. Sometimes I just beeline a Diplo Vict because it is the fastest route or other times I will rage war because I just want to see the world burn!

I always forget to do this lol! I wish I would of though because as you can see on my pic he put that city right in the middle of the jungle and stole my bannanas.

Actually I do not really understand the idea of playing without a specific victory condition.

I think there won't be enough participants to compare eg several ways to cultural victory, the fastest will be of course domination.

You think there would be more participants if you specify, let's say, culture victory? :crazyeye: I seriously doubt that. Besides, two official competitions running already and providing you with exactly what you want. In these challenges I see no reason to restrict anyone in any way. It's not an official competition and its purpose always has been creating a stress free learning environment for those who are still eager to learn, not to challenge those who are totally bored and looking for human competition. Moreover, I suspect that some of the crazy challenges we had in the past, proposed by members of the latter group, have partial responsibility for activity decline. I'm fine with occasional showing off, but I am not ok with turning these games into showing off fest. I'd prefer to encourage immortal or even emperor players to try and up their game rather than create some sort of 'elite' club. Ideally, we should please both groups, of course, by having variety in challenges nature.

How would you approach domination here btw? Get education, then beeline dynamite and get as many cannons as you can meanwhile?

Also, can someone remind me how much does it cost to upgrade treb to cannon and cannot to arty pls :)

That's my plan. Haven't had the time to play yet... :(

IIRC, unit upgrade cost is hammer difference x2 + 10, if so it should be 140 for both.

The Deity challenge series is not about winning as fast as possible imo, its just about people playing the same start and telling the story of their game, unlike for example HOF and GOTM.

This is the way I have always felt about the deity challenge series. I really enjoy seeing the different strategies employed by users throughout the same game. The DC's were actually a great learning recourse for me when I finally moved up from king/warlord(<--cannot remember if that is the level above king).

On the other hand, it would be nice if there was a little more structure to the series. I remember one of the irritating issues with DC's was for example, DC#25 is posted on Tuesday, then DC#26 is posted on Thursday morning. It didn't give anyone time to play #25, and discussion never generated. I would like to see it become a monthly or even bi-weekly event. It seems as if the interest is still here, yes?

one every two weeks seems OK, a month is way too long time, and a week might be short. Some of us have to work and have limited time to game in the week :)

Get one of those really high paying jobs where you work out of your own home. Just browse the web and you'll find a ton of jobs making 50k a week. Then you will have more free time!

Seriously though, I think every two weeks is probably good. Anybody out there want to take the roll as president of the Deity Challenge Series? Maybe it would be a good idea to start completely fresh with guidelines(no science overflow ect) and all that jazz.

terrain is soooo bad for arty rush I would recommend at least planes, or at better yet rocket arty, and battleship. Particularly going for Greece and Austria by land is suicidal. Rome is behind a jungle and CS to the south as well and America is behind a mountain range you have to walk around if you want to go by land.

I see your point, however still do not understand what will learn player who has won culturally, if everyone else chose domination.

well, with Alex on the map, do you think its possible to get 12 oil? We have some desert, so I guess we will have some, but I seriously doubt it will be enough.

    That is very true. :)

:goodjob: Awesome! That was always the idea behind them and I am really glad to hear it worked as intended. At least in your case. :)

Yep, bi-weekly event was the initial plan... We all know how it turned out. :D

A structure (better organization should I say) would be nice, but on the other hand, I feel we need to avoid severe restrictions of any sort. In all honesty, I wish I could took a lead here, but I don't have one of these 50k fancy jobs and I do have 50k kids to feed. I just can't commit to something regular. I can commit to host a monthly event but even that is not set in stone. Having multiple hosts has its clear advantages, even though creates some chaos.

As for guidelines... again, without official ranking, we can't really enforce any rules. Some players reload in their every day games and they will reload in challenges. Others replay the map several times. Someone else will only play once and will impose even more limitations because he finds the map too easy. I don't really know what we can do about that, nor feel we actually need to do something. You have any particular ideas besides overflow bug?

What will he learn if he plays alone? :) You can learn a lot by just watching others play on a map you've never played yourself. Why won't you be able to learn from different choices players make? There is no straightforward way to reach your victory. Go right - culture, go left - domination. I am sure, had every map suited all victory types equally, players choices would have been varied. But that's just not the reality of the game. Some maps are horrible for culture and that's also something you can learn from your scenario. :D

If you want to restart, that is fine by me. If you want to go back to an auto save because you messed up, that's also okay. This is less of a competition but rather a showcase of different play styles when everybody start evenly. I figure you can play the game however you want, but I would rather not see the results if you used the overflow exploit or IGE. I don't know if that Oxford bug is still around, but if it is, then that would also be a no-no. It would all have to be on the honor system, because as soon as you start implementing house rules, it's hard to stop.

I still think like ironfighter that a VC should at least be suggested. For those being in it more to compare results (so that they have a guideline). Those not interested in following an imposed vc can do whatever they want like they already do or simply try to win it by any means.
Something like: "Those looking for competition should attempt a XXXXXX victory"

2 weeks is good and I also think laxism towards replay is ok in something so unoficial. Im also okay with spoilers in the thread etc. Im obviously against bug exploits though...

If these are going to be bi-weekly event I would suggest that other map of month is easy and other is hardcore.
