Currently building a library and then a caravan, so what should it build next? It currently only has two units in the city.

I voted for a market place.

Caravan. We need all those wonders quickly.

Well when the Zulu's landed we had problems because several surrounding cities only had two defensive units so they could not risk attacking.

Why is that a problem  If the defenders are decent, let them attack and kill themselves. Maybe we should have a fast attack unit within reach of most of our cities to handle Crusaders, but we certainly don't need three *defenders* in each city.

EDIT: I voted caravan, but can our military leader make us aware of the number of crusaders or similar fast attack units that are sitting "at home" to ward off such attacks? We certainly don't need one in every city, but with roads one unit can cover three or so cities. Once we go to Republic there will be no need to have more than two defensive units in a city, and possibly not even that.

Here is a situation with two defenders.

The enemy lands two crusaders. It seems safe enough so the first pikeman attacks but he is killed. Now we have a problem. If the second pikeman attacks he could die and leave the city defenceless. If he stays in the city then the next turn, the enemy crusader will attack and will likely take the city...

Edit: Dellsville is on its own island so ideally it needs its own attacking unit.

Then we should *replace* one of the Pike's with a Crusader or Knight, but we don't need three units.

I noticed some of our other cities had three units, including outdated Phalanxes. Is this for happiness control or have we simply neglected to disband older units?

I started a poll ages ago about this...Whether we should disband old units or not and everyone seemed happy enough to wait for them to be upgraded. Maybe the MoI should make another poll about disbanding old units?

Well, I thnk with how close we should be getting to Leo's we shouldn't disband any 'old' units, becasue they will all soon be 'new' units. :)

I think we can replace the units by moving a Knight over there and then moving one of its pikes somewhere else.

As far as production, since we are going to a republic soon, we should start getting market places in the cities. Since this isn't our SSC, maybe the library now should be changed to a marketplace first?

I seem to remember this as falling under the Military Advisor's role - or perhaps the governor's role.

I agree with Duke (with a capital "D" :)). These are going to all be upgraded, and we should keep them on. A better option would be to move extra units to newly settled cities - which there should be a bunch of over the next batch of turns. We can then "home" them at the new cities to take the support burden off the cities that made them.

This would also ensure that our new cities are defended right away.

I would think that the president can work out the logistics of all of this.
