Since I lost the save for my old story it's time for a new one :D. This is going to be my second attempt at Demi-God. I will be playing as the Maya. My goal is to survive to a Diplo/Spacerace victory. Input from others would be greatly apprecietaed.

The settings:

After getting a few starts I limited it down to three:

One:

Two:

Three:

I'm leaning towards 3, but thats ALOT of jungle, but alot of cattle. Since my capital is going to be and uber worker/settler factory it may not pose too huge a problem.

Definitely 2.

This is continents, 70%? If 3 really has a lot of jungle, then I would go for #2. Standard continents on demigod, you don't need 3 factories, I don't think.

Can I ask how you selected your opponents?

I don't know why you are all saying 3. #2 is much better, I'd look at that first.

number 1 IMO. It is guaranteed settler factory + lux, while 2, though it has more cattle, might not have forests around it, making it not-so-good location as it could be. 3 I think is the worst, because of the surrounding jungles.

Number 1 is pretty good yes, but the looks of it gives me suspicion on the surrounding terain. In my experience, more forest is a sign of more shields in the area, at the cost of food. The best part of number one is it's non shore appearence.

However, if the surrounding forest has some game, then it's probably as good as 2.

Number 2 is good. That river looks promising, and the land gives hint of fertile-ness. If the water seen is a fresh water lake, it's even better. If it's not fresh water, then it's the ocean, and rivers run into the ocean eventually, as we all know. That means the seen river is a longer river :)

3 is a waste initially. You'd have to chop down a good bit of jungle to even properly use the three cattle. However, the ultima output is good. The reason I oppose it is it is a coastal start. I don't like coastal starts.

The main reason 2 > 1 for me, is because I have bad experiences with too many shield instead of food bonuses.

I'm glad I toom start #2. 2cows + River + Lux +BGs=GREAT START. So i'm pretty happy how things turned out. This looks like this could be an interesting game.

Hmm, looks like I got a bit careless. I can see in the near future many cities rioting, (Next time I'll have Civ Assist on.) I seem to have bumped into the Americans. I will meet the dutch and portugesee soon after.

My little empire is progressing quite nicely, I'm happy the americans decieded not to send their settler north. It looks asthough I'm on a peninsula; Hopefully to myself.

Looks like the AI spazzed and I might be able to grab more land south than I had orriganlly antisipated. I'm going to have to urry as 2-3 Dutch settlers are going to try and cross my lands to get to the North. The english are on my continent aswell. The portugesse have established an embassy with me.

What should I be doing as far as science goes?
What could have I done better?
Workers?
Ask if you want more screenies for info.

Thankyou everyone, it was a nice start. As you'll see it has put me on a good course. So today's update will see the end of the expansion phase and a surprise!

Looks who's got 2 luxs and 1 has surplus :D

Man talk about MMing units, hoards of settlers keep coming into my lands, I have just enough units to keep them occupied by having them go back and forth. The stupid dutch are the worst.

I really hope no ones drops a settler pair off a galley because that is some prime realistate.

After about 30 turns I researched iron working, but guess what? No iron for me yay! The closest source is just across the border. May need to grab it later.

Now for the surprise! I have the largest empire, most people, and most cities! I didn't think it would be possible, maybe the AI is at war? Or they are just retarted. Here's some pics from civ assist and my empire:

Whats next, conquest? Buiding?

I always get worried when an AI places an embassy with me on higher levels - it usually means they are trying to figure out if they can get to me to kill me. Portugal is far enough away, though, not to worry about it. You need to keep an eye on them, though. Why? They are in Republic already, which means they are likely to be the tech leader fairly soon.

Next? Get writing, build a army, attack one of your neighbors and bring the other in. see if you can trade up some techs. Get a curragh out there so you can meet the other continent!! Contact with the other 3 civs will be helpful.

Expanding SE seems the best option, most obviously into the American territory.

I echo the others, attack America. Certainly Houston and San Fran should be yours, along with the iron of course. Have you any horses? If not utilize your javelins. Just be aware of the early golden age. While it's always best to be out of despotism for the golden age, a good early golden age can set up a great rest of the game. Just something to think about. I am not now seggesting a despotic golden age, just that it isn't always a bad thing.

Are you submiting this one Vind?
