How in the world do you make the most of a democracy? I have a very large empire that's rectangular with my capital near one corner and FP near the corner diagonal from it and when I was in republic my corruption was -370/turn now it is -514!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got downgraded governents! This is C3C, did they like confuse democracy with something else????? This sucks!

First off - look at your gross economy - it might be possible that your overall GDP is higher.... though the general consensus is that C3C Democracy is usually not worth the trouble if you're already in republic...

Do you have pre- and post- switch saves you could post?

Demo, like communism, requires remodeling of city layout.
The city rank remains, but the distance corruption is less, to make optimal use of this difference, core cities are best place in OCP, and grown to metropolises.

No matter the city layout, getting more corruption by switching from repu to demo is very strange.
How many anarchy turns did you get? If it was 8 or 9 turns it is possible you got many new citizens in your corrupted cities.

CAII will let you see the numbers if you want to know what the income was before the switch.

I have seen other people play democracy and have almost no armies at all, if u wish to have at least 1 guy guarding each of ur cities (I have at least two for my game) then switch ur government to Communism...
Democracy = SMall Army, Big Commerce
Communism = Big Army, Small Commerce

Big Army can take a ton of cities to gain even more Commerce ;)

Regardless of what government you chose, why oh why would you want to have an X amount of units tied to each city? even if its just one.
Its a very inefficient way to use your military.

Only way that might make any sense is MP supression of the citizenry. But you should be able to do better with lux and entertainment.

Actually, I like playing long big maps, and sometimes it gets laggy, and sometimes I dont see wat the comps do to make their moves so u never kno when a small attack force will raid ur cities and burn each one they conquer, i suggest military for better protection
besides, I got a TON of unit support to spare
EDIT: And also, I try buidling all the improvements I can get in one city, just to keep the people occupied and not building Military troops

yeah, but maintain a big military is still cheaper in republic, so this doesn't really make demo friendlier :)

Depends how big. If you have more than twice your free republic support, you're better off in demo. Think about it:

Say you have 250 units. As a republic, you get 100 free units. You pay (150*2) 300gpt in upkeep. As a demo, you'd only pay 250gpt.

yes, i guess in huge maps democracy could be superior over republic partially because the thing you mentioned. what i really meant, is that in demo the high WW is sometimes a serious issue. so for example, you probably capable of set up a bigger military, but if this big military is set off to attack the enemy, you move towards their cities and your WW-points are quickly gained by your mass amount of units are standing in the enemy territory and its just one factor... so much for the big military, so much for the democracy (well at least for me) :)
