in spite of the sympathy i have for this perspective, which i think is authentically felt by the people in question, they did just vote for an expensive and violent military-backed crackdown on immigration

i think the silent majority as you note are pretty ambivalent as to race and are "just" reservedly skeptical, however, in spite of this default inclination. trump flourished to use the army and its brute force to deport regular working people.

basically, it's both at the same time. most people are really quite concrete in the world, and are (misguidedly) vaguely worried about foreigners; and they don't mind tanks and drones to push them out.

Interesting that you assume the younger demographic, the majority of whom (if they have an opinion about it) do think the shooting is acceptable, are all "bougie edgelords." So are we to understand that you speak only for older voters?

No need to translate. Immigration really isn't a real problem. Everything attributed to immigration is actually something else (like straight up just paying lower wages while blaming immigrants) and enforcement won't fix it.

You're complicit in racism if you support racist systems. Was true in slavery era as well. You can sulk about it and make the situation worse to show how much you don't care, but how is that different from what's going to happen anyway?
