If my dad says we should patch then I say we should patch. :D

I'm curious ... has anyone responded to Epsilon's offer of assistance? I kinda wondering if maybe we shouldn't try and have a chat with those folks. Get an idea of what they've got in mind, and in what timeframe.

So are we offloading the cavs, clearing some room on a free galleon, and then picking them up on the next turn?

I received this PM from Epsilon:

Dear Piffle Allies,

The game is moving again! Hooray!

Can we get an update from you on your research on Steam Power? We need to know how far away you are, so that we can better plan our next step to Assembly Line.

As a refresher, our current tech deal looks like this:
Epsilon Gives:
1. Scientific Method (2400)
2. Constitution (2000)
3. Communism (2800
4. Biology (3600)
5. Corporation (1600)
6. Assembly Line (5000)
= 17,400 total

Piffle Gives:
1. Steam Power (3200)
2. Physics (4000) + keep Great Scientist
3. Railroad (4500)
4. Electricity (4500)
= 16,200 total

We'll go ahead and send you Scientific Method and Constitution as soon as you'd like - just let us know!

Looking forward to hearing back from you,

General_W

3) We can probably trade dyes from you sometime.
4) Tech path. We still have the remnants of a tech deal with Epsilon so we were wondering what to do to minimize doubling research.

From Robi D:
A quick reply
1) Would would need some rebuilding time first. But i would say somewhere in the northern half of their east coast.

2) We are running on specialists so not at the moment

3) I'm sure we can sort that out easily enough.

4) Our tech rate is not that good (some might say crap) once we can rebuild we should be able to get it up to a decent rate

We'll need Innovia for anything to work. They're the only ones who've had peace. I still think a dogpile is our only shot.

Dear Piffle Allies,

We write to you at the dawn of a new era. The Leader, may he live forever, has successfully liberated the citizens of Locopotamia from their robber-baron overlords. He has set up Epsilonian administrative offices in their former cities, and the reeducation campaign has begun in earnest. The world is now a better place.

We had hoped against hope to see you make further progress in ridding the world of the bitter Aloha nation, but we see that hostilities have ceased. This is a very unexpected turn of events, to say the least!

A massive flotilla was spotted, ready to make landfall even, and we were expecting to see Aloha lose a city shortly. What happened? Is this a 10-turn lull to regroup? We have a Frigate in the area which could offer Line of Sight intelligence for you, if you need it.

As for the tech race, our Alliance is keeping us ahead of the rest of the world - as it should! Are your plans to go for Physics or Railroad next? How long do you think it will take? We are ready to transfer Biology, according to the Treaty.

Please let us know if there's anything we can do to assist your conquest of Aloha - you have but to ask.

Your ally,
Epsilon Team!

An interesting note ... I'm guessing that Epsilon is concerned that we are not following the plan that was laid out way-back-when, when we first formed our alliance. They are probably just a bit confused about what we're up to. Of course, I'm can't say that I'm 100% clear about our plan, either. :dunno:

Research RR and either trade for or bulb Physics and Electricity. Thus ends our deal with Epsilon once we trade across.

What the heck is this? Cant complain about a free tech but I was sure we had to research Electricity.

Assembly Line is all yours :)

We are 3-4 Away from Electricity and will sed that to you right away as well. Can you please offere Railroad itnerturn for us?
Thanks.

Memphus!

Dear Epsilon,

I think we were supposed to research Electricity but who can complain about a freebie? The unfortunate problem is we now do not have a research plan so will need to discuss it as a team. I suppose the discovery of Electricity ends our tech deal. If there is anything we can assist with please let us know.
In everlasting friendship,
Piffle

Dear Piffle Allies,

Thank you for sending Physics and updating us on Railroad.
We see you've accepted Corporation, so we'll send Assembly Line to you
next turn.
We plan to proceed with research on Electricity, and then on to
Industrialism. What do you plan on researching after Rails?

That's quite the force you've assembled south of Aloha :wow: - The
Leader sends you his best wishes for a crushing victory against the
evil Alohans.

If there's anything you need / anything we can do to help – please
don't hesitate to ask!

All the best,

An official Note will come from the General but:

it has something like we are close to electricity and we'll continue sending our techs as we get them, and as for your path

So here's what we propose. If you'd research
1) Combustion
2) Democracy
3) Fascism

(any of them your choice)

We'll work up the other braches of the tech tree and continue to send our technologies to you as we've been doing.

Memphus

Dear Piffle Allies,

We apologize for the confusion on electricity! We weren't paying as
close of attention to our outline as we should have been.

That said – we're certainly happy to keep the beaker balance heavily
in your favor as a way of contributing to the war effort against
Aloha. However, we'd like to keep this lopsided beaker total in the
context of an ongoing deal.

In plainer English: We're happy to overlook the widening gap in our
agreed 17,400 beakers for 16,200 beakers deal – as long as we keep
trading!
We'd hate to see an end to our profitable trading thus far.

So here's what we propose. If you'd research
1) Combustion
2) Democracy
3) Fascism

We'll work up the other braches of the tech tree and continue to send
our technologies to you as we've been doing. Given our currently
superior research ability, this will continue to work out heavily in
your favor in terms of beakers.

What do you say?
Can we continue to cooperate in Tech as well as in Conquering the world?

Your Allies,

Sounds like they wont give Electricity until we sign up for this squalid deal.

May I suggest a game of "good cop / bad cop" as a way to stall them? :dunno: Imply that you are OK with continuing to deal with them, but that some of your teammates are wondering what Epsilon is up to after researching Electricity. Let them know that some of your teammates are wondering if Electricity, which was part of the original deal which we were willing to honor, is now being held hostage to get us to agree to a new deal. You can also question the need for Fascism; how dead-end techs, like Communism before, doesn't really appear to benefit Piffle.

Mentioning Communism could make them think we aren't interested in the Kremlin. Or it could draw their attention to it. Not sure ...

Hopefully you can stall them long enough until Democracy comes in. At that point, just send over the tech in exchange for Electricity. And then we are done.

Sounds good. Done.

Dear Epsilonia,

Greetings from PiffleMania! We are in receipt of your last letter and I think we would like to swing a deal similar to the one you proposed. However, some of my teammates are wondering what Epsilon is up to after researching Electricity. They are wondering if Electricity, which was part of the original deal which we were willing to honor, is now being held hostage to get us to agree to a new deal. And the need for Fascism is pretty questionable, dont you think? And your research direction isnt stated so...? It is a bit puzzling and could you clarify the matter?

Piffle

You missed the part about stalling them! Don't be so quick to send them a reply ...

How far away from Democracy are we, anyway? And are there any other techs that we could maybe try and get out of them? Actually just a general idea of where you see the timeline for hostilities would be helpful.

What you want to say we are stalling? I figured we would just go back and forth for a while:lol: .

I figure we could have Democracy in 8 turns easily if we researched. At 0 research we will get it in 17 turns so that is what I figured we would do since Aloha and Innovia are going to be a bit in getting Rocketry.

Complete Kremlin in 8 turns, get Electricity from them hopefully asap in 3 turns, highlight Fission, then Hamburger builds on the Manhatten until 1 turn left. At that time we should have 5K gold or so.

Nukes cost about 675-700 gold apiece with Kremlin and 1 turn invested. We have to go to Uni Sufferage at some point along the line.

We cannot gift nukes that I can see however so we will have to attack Epsilon or give Innovia all our gold for rocketry and ensure they are in US (they are spiritual so no big deal).

Also, I made a rough estimate of land area (Epsilon has 25%; us 13%). For domination we would need all unsettled land (~30%) and part of Aloha. Such would make domination quite hard to achieve.

So that leaves space I suppose, and we do have a good enough gnp to beat Innovia there.

They sent a message back saying they would discuss and come up with a more specific plan and also dont want to give away Electricity for free. So we can either highlight it or trade them demo which might be the way to go.

Dear Piffle,

Sorry about that – I was aware as I was sending that note that it was
very short on details. We're still trying to nail down a more specific
plan – but wanted you to know what we were thinking in the mean time.

I promise we'll get back to you with much more details as soon as possible.

- General_W

P.S. it's certainly not our intention to hold electricity "hostage"!
We just wouldn't want to give it away for free (since it was on your
side of the tech deal) if there was going to be no more tech
cooperation between us. Even if you eventually refuse to sign a new
deal with us, you're still better off, since you got all the techs on
our side of the deal without having to research and then send us
Electricity.
