I am currently playing my third game and am doing fairly well. I have basically wiped out the Egyptians through use of alliances and MPPs. However they had tons of culture prior to the war and were in general way ahead. I recently took their capitol, Thebes and got Hoover Dam and some other wonders. The people deposed me once and then I just took the city again.

What is the best way to try and keep the population of a taken city from deposing you after you take it?

My culture is lower than theirs but I added some workeres to the city and made them entertainers. Any other thoughts?

THANKS

Build Temples, Libraries and all the other things that produce Culture Points ;)

you have a few possiblities. have tons of luxuaries plus some coin luxaries plus atleast 1 troop for each citizen or starve the population down to 1 and have it grow with your own people(this saves building aquaducts and hospitals) or raz the city.

rushing temples/catherdals/libaries/universities helps but its expensive.

Mmmm about the 1 unit per por rule, I have to say it doesn't prevent flips at all. You have to count resistors as double, add the number of city radius tiles under enemy control, and then, DOUBLE ALL THAT since the enemy has surely more local culture than you. That usually results between 40 and 60 units...not worth it. Better be prepared for the flip by having units outside, waiting to retake the city.

for big cities, starve them, don't make them immediately happy. helps if you bombard the crap outta them before taking the city. If you can't eliminate the civ, take as many cities as you can easily, then make peace (helps a lot), and keep a large garrison to reduce likelihood of flip. a huge garrison is the only surety. As long as you're at peace, you should have enough time to rush a temple, courthouse and library.

There are 2 strategies available:

1. Raze every city.

2. Eliminate the entire civ as quickly as possible: Don't even station any troops in captured cities, just fortify around it. As soon as they despose, recapture it.

Of course, if you make peace, then option 2 won't work, cuz if it flips, you can't get it back without declaring war.

One of the best options is to starve the city down to a point where it can grow quickly if you let it, or down to 1, or if it's in the way, get rid of it. if you can get a new peep every 5 or 6 turns or less, you'll soon have more of your people than they have of theirs. Building workers or settlers can speed up the process until you start getting your people in there. Even then, I think starving kills the foreigners first.

Leveling cities with bombardment steals inmportant improvements taht you can sell if you want to abandon the city. Of course, your troops are more important than a few buildings.

If you want to keep a city and can afford to, post a lot of troops in there, rush build culture items (but granary should be first), and set people to gather max food for max growth to get more of your people in there. Once the pop is about even, chance of losing it is really small.
