How do you target stealth destroyers in BTS? no unit seems to be able to find them, which is actually quite annoying since you cannot thus use them to guard your water improvement tiles. The enemy moved into their square, completely ignores them and pillages. You'd think the stealth ship would launch a surprise atatck or something but no. At least in some of the BTS scenarios, not even stealth destroyers can detect an enemy stealth destroyer. How do you target them?

Other Stealth Destroyers can detect themself.

Don't know about scenarios tho.

Edit: BTW. The problem you describe... A invisible SD will be bumped out instead of defending/escorting. So unless the AI uses SD as well, yours are completely useless on defensive duty.

Haha this is getting funnier by the minute... so not only can't they intercept aircraft, but they also can't defend or see stealth. Basically they are a waste of hammers since the cruiser at least is 40str...

Basicly SD's only defensive function is to counter other SD's - is of not use for nothing else...

However, if the AI does not have the means to detect them, they might be of limited use in offence - for pillaging maybe...

Overall one of the rather doubtfull new BTS features :(

What about the sea patrol option? Wont it intercept pillaging enemy ships then?

In the Broken Star scenarios stealth destroyers *cannot* detect other stealth destroyers.

This i did not tried. I assume the answer is "No", unless the Enemy has dected the SD, because it's how it works in every other game situation.
In the Broken Star scenarios stealth destroyers *cannot* detect other stealth destroyers.
Then you might be screwed :p. I never played any scenario so no first hand experienve there... Try scanning through contemporaty units in the pedia tho, to see if there is another one to see it...

EDIT: I looked it up in the XML... In the Broken Star scenario the SD are not invisible... (And should be able to detect subs, btw.)...

So my guess is, something else is pillaging your seafood. Sub maybe ?

Spoiler :
Code:
			<Class>UNITCLASS_STEALTH_DESTROYER</Class>
			<Type>UNIT_STEALTH_DESTROYER</Type>
			<UniqueNames/>
			<Special>NONE</Special>
			<Capture>NONE</Capture>
			<Combat>UNITCOMBAT_NAVAL</Combat>
			<Domain>DOMAIN_SEA</Domain>
			<DefaultUnitAI>UNITAI_RESERVE_SEA</DefaultUnitAI>
			[COLOR="Red"]<Invisible>NONE</Invisible>[/COLOR]
			<SeeInvisible>INVISIBLE_SUBMARINE</SeeInvisible>

They do not work as defense patrol. I just had it happen that i had a SD with an AS protecting a crab. I moved the sub away, and the next turn a Dutch sub pillaged the square as if my SD wasn't there on patrol. I was flabbergasted, I copiously checked to make sure my SD was there and clicked for protecting. Apparently, he forgets to do his duty when others can't see him.

Although, he will protect against other SD's from pillaging. SD's are simply foils against other SD's. But they are also great for offense. You can lurk around for wounded enemy ships and surprise them before they get home to safety. Also, I've used them to sink unprotected transports that are dashing towards my continent.

Stealth Destroyers CAN intercept aircraft.

They CAN, but the lazy bums dont really like to. I set experiments with the WB - they only do intercept, if visible, which is not the case most of the time :(

I use them as a forward picket line in the oceans. In my current game, Gigamesh takes his time, builds a lovely fleet with transports escorted by battleships, and tries to sail over to my continent. I spot him a couple of turns before he can get there, mass my missile cruisers, and sail on in.
I let the SD's take care of the transports, and then use the XP to get the extra tile of vision.
So far in my exended war, I have smoked four fleets this way. :D

SD are in essence the pirates of the modern seas, The best counter is other SD's. what i do is have a main fleet, containing missile cruisers and carriers in the middle with SD's (and AS) around the edge, if they spot another SD, then send in the jet fighters and missile crusiers if they can attack them, or use the SD if they don't have enough range.

Good to know, because I've never seen them intercept in a game.

That's right...I knew that there was some bizarre qualifier....

I'm starting a game where Stealth Destroyers are not invisible, can see submarines and to handwave their stealth capabilities I gave them some first strikes, to represent their getting a firing solution before their opponent. Going to see how it works out.
