Well. We're rehashing everything so I figured we might as well rehash the RPG as well.

Rule One: NO DG3 STYLE RPG!!!
I dont think any of us liked dying every other TC. We like long, drawn out stories that dont like to die. We like elaborate story line that do NOT involve volcanoes erupting and mad dashes to get them. We like giant kingdoms that offer jousting battles and mysteries. We like it when a single person is able to take over his fathers city by means of art. We like insanity and we like it well written.

Rule Two: Thats where we all come in

We need a new rule set that will tell us what we can and cannot do. We need people. We want *points* YOU!

Meanwhile, as this speech continues, several cloaked figures emerge from nothing. They are carrying a few things, but one steps forewards. He holds an oboe in one hand and a penguin in the other. Sir SaaM the Reedy has risen.

Well, I have an idea for the RPG before the game actualy starts, We can play during the Prehistoric/Ice Age era during the time of the Stone Age :).

My only question would be:

Do we have the interest to sustain a new RPG? Granted, the DG3 RPG was a bust, but that was mainly due to the complex ruleset.

However, there are two emerging ideas that may be able to absorb our beloved RPG. One of them is the History Thread, which seems like it will ask for written stories from DG members based on events of the actual game. There is also the idea of expanding the city(aka Mayoral) threads so that they become RPG-type communities themselves(see City of Gorina). If we can find a way to implement both of these in a manner that isn't confusing, we may not even need the RPG thread.

I know this is a big left turn, but let me know what you think of this idea on the surface, and we can build on it from there.

Unless there's a desire (and willing volunteer to manage it) for a game of some kind, as opposed to simple role-playing, I'm not sure we need a dedicated RPG forum.

The city/mayorial threads are ideal for role-playing posts, and the Creative History Department could fill in the gaps between the various city thread storylines.

Nonetheless, I imagine that if someone can devise a workable ruleset for an RPG, and is willing to manage it all, then the RPG can be reborn in DG4.

EDIT: Of course, I could break out the old RIP avatar... ;)

That's more like the DG 1 you mean? Well, that was fun too, but the "mortal immortal" posts were even spammier than the "rebel pub" ones

I think if we can just write free stories about what is going on in the game, overseen by a manager, that would be the best way. No complex rules, buying items, tournaments, etc. Just storywriting and one manager.

I believe DZ's approach to this is a very good one. At it's base, we could say that in order to become part of this RPG/storytelling scenario, you would have to leave the Capitol, move to a new city and maybe even become Mayor to start a story there. The main story would be the Capital's story and be written in the Creative History thread. This thread would be managed by FortyJ and myself. Once other cities were established, groups of people could move to a city and start their own story in that city thread (whether done by the Mayor or not). This could be a good campaign promise for a Mayoral candidate. "Vote for me and I will start the RPG story for this city, etc..."

Once a city (or a group of cities) gets up and running, the stories could become intertwined. A lead in from a city story could appear attractive to the writers of the Creative History thread. By remaining fairly factual, the city's story could become a subplot (or better) of the Creative History story.

By having the stories start independantly in city threads, as DZ suggested, it wouldn't matter if the different stories ever intertwined or not. You could choose to make a concerted effort to join the main story or you could choose to remain independant and rule your own world. You could gather a group of friends to work a good story up for your city or you could break away and start a new story in a new city thread. The possibilities are endless.

Of course at the begining of the game, when all we have is a grass hut and a couple of warriors, the Main story would only be written by the Creatice History Department.
