I vote for none of the above, but since there is no option. I selected a custom map. I myself am not a fan of variant games. I would rather play the game with regular rules.

Tomorrow i will post a poll with NONE and any option getting 50% or more
(Sorry, I am busy tonight)

I would like to suggest an alternative followon poll, because there is obviously a lot of support for some kind of change but the kind of change is divided too many ways for any option to get "enough" support. I for one am not willing to give up on the idea of playing a mod -- DyP and "GOTM Mod" are both tried, tested, and popular.

With this number of options, 33% would be a more reasonable cutoff. That would be all options with 7 or more votes as it presently stands.

Alternatively, run another filtering poll as follows.
Suggested options for the poll:

No modifications
Play with a "Mod" such as DyP, GOTM, etc. (TBD)
Play with a certain style (Always War, Never War [unless forced], "honorable")
Play with limitations (5CC, 1CC, etc.)
Abstain

Can someone please explain what these choices mean? Some are clear like "always war, passive", but some are just jibberish. No idea what the mods are.

Also, is this poll still actually open? No one has posted here in a long time.

Comnenus, here are some quick definitions, to the best of my knowledge. Much has changed since this poll was run(lots of warmongers joining the fold ;) ), so we may want to think about doing this again.

Always War - Must be at war at all times there is a known opponent. I believe you basically have to be at war with everyone you meet when you meet them, but there are different variants.

Noble- We play the game as honorable as possible, and are never aggressors. Foul play on our part to gain military advantage is not allowed.

DyP Mod - Double Your Pleasure. Someone can probably elaborate on this further, but it mostly allows twice the civs, twice the resources etc. I could be wrong on the resources part.

GOTM Mod - not sure what this means either. Perhaps play a game as recently in the GOTM games, which is basically applying many on the traits of Civ Conquests into a Vanilla Civ game(volcanos), along with other twists.

5CC - Five City Challenge. We can only build five cities, and have to win from there. I am not sure if this means we can keep captured cities, or if we can only advance the game via the five cities.

Large Change in Government - Not sure. Modding the Government options, perhaps?

Rik Meleet's Luxurie Mod - Rik had the idea of dynamic luxuries, aka Luxes that moved around throughout the game. There were other additions to this mod that I can't recall just yet.

Passive - self-explanatory, we detest war, even when it is waged on us.

Oscillating War - I think the idea here was to be at war for a time, and then at peace. But isn't that how most Civ games go? I could be way off on this definition.

Some Sort of Custom Map - self-explanatory

Now that all is set to begin, I believe we should just play a regular game and just go heavy on the roleplaying. I can already see a huge War vs. Peace internal battle set to brew in the near future. And as much as I would would like to see us pursue a peaceful victory that includes no conquest, I don't think that scenario should be mandated by poll.

I also see several new citizens that have what it takes to breathe some new life into these forums by treating this endeavor as more than just a civ game. As it should be.

So, let's just have the mod be personal passion. Find a belief you would like to promote. Start a citizen's group. Lobby your government officials. Stay active.

Despite its shaky kickoff, this DemoGame shows more promise than any in recent memory. I can't ever remember seeing a 100-post nomination thread, or 100+ posts dedicated to our National flag that receive to-the-minute updates from dedicated citizens. We need to keep this kind of excitement going. I just think modding the game at this point would screw all of that up.

I go for C3C, and it is ludicrous that we still do vanilla, plus, I dislike the vanilla label on what is just straight C3.

Thank you, DZ, for your great explanation. I am sure some of the holes will get filled in as time passes.

I am looking forward to this game, too. I have no preconceived notions but I do have certain philosophies I follow in all my games. I believe in high culture. I believe in a strong military. But I use it as a deterrent to war rather than as an extension of a militaristic society. If attacked I will prosecute a war mercilessly, but I rarely begin a war to "liberate" a people from their oppressor.
