I got my first Walkman-type personal stereo as a gift when I was about 8, and bought 2 or 3 replacements over the next 20 years or so (might even still have the last one in a drawer upstairs!).Anyone had one of these?

Even after I switched over to buying CDs in my mid-teens, I only listened to them on my home stereo (which I also still have, and it still works!). I went on using a walkman when I was travelling anywhere, because tape-cases are more compact/robust than CD-cases, so more practical to carry; also when I inherited my Gran's old car (and the first 2 cars I drove here in Germany), the radios could only play tapes not CDs.
So one of the first things I'd do with a new album (I pretty much only bought albums) was catalogue the track-lengths so I could figure out how to fit as much of it as possible neatly onto one side of a 90- or 100-minute tape, program my stereo with the revised track-list, and record it. Made quite a few mix-tapes for friends as well.
