Since I have just completed this conquest (a VP victory) with Japan on monarch, I am playing again with America on the same level. Seems to be a whole different game with America, the first few turns were a disaster for me. Not sure if the AI was just lucky or not but I lost 4 BBs at Pearl Harbor and 2 more were damaged. Has anyone else completed this conquest and tried again with a different country?

I have not played this scenario yet. Working on the Japaneese scenario.

However, considering the results of the real attack

USS Arizona, USS West Virginia, USS California - sunk
USS Utah (had been converted to a training ship) - capsized
USS Oklahoma - rolled completely over, extensive damage
USS Maryland, USS Pennsylvania, USS Tennessee - extensive damage
USS absolutely none - unharmed

Your start doesn't seem to far off historical.

Really? And there was me thinking it was actually a real little world that I was nuking.

BTW, I agree its true to life the way the Allied side starts off as a disarster, especially the US.

I tried the WWII as the US, and only lost 1 fighter. It all depends on the RNG

it is a game, but it is a HISTORICAL game as in based on history. if you take the time to read the designer notes from the different scenarios they tried to make it so Japan hits hard at the beginning and America although wounded badly at first gains momentum as time progresses and can be quite a powerhouse at endgame. also i believe i read that all scenarios were winnable at all difficulty levels throughout playtesting. i don't know if they tested sid level though.

I have played it three times. Once as the U.S. and twice as the United Kingdom. It played slightly different each time. When I was the U.S. Japan destroyed one of the U.K cities in Burma and the U.K. didn't seem to do much fighting. Japan wasn't as agressive as they were historically but next time I try I will increase the agression level. When I first played as the U.K. Japan didn't even capture the city they destroyed in the U.S. game but did destroy a Chinese city. In the next game Japan didn't capture a single city on the Malay Peninsula but destroyed lots of Chinese cities and almost cut China in half. The second U.K. game saw the Japanese capture Wake Island for the first time and the U.S. never captured a single island from the Japanese. In all three games the Japanese never captured Manila and that is where the FP is so it gives the U.S. a core from which to expand later in the War. The Dutch aren't playable but always seem to be a thorn in the Japanese side.

I think the Japanese or Chinese civs will be the most challenging. The Japanese because they lost the war and the Chinese because they wont get much help from the U.S or the U.K.
