Digital or Analog?

What type of watch/clock do you prefer?

I like Analog and Binary (I <3 binary)

There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who have friends...

Digital watches, like baseball caps, cannot be worn by people over fourteen years of age without the bearer looking like a goofball.

Epic Fail, it is actually "There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those who understand binary logic and those who don't" (BTW 10 is pronounced "one zero" not ten) and BTW, nerds have friends too

My mistake. I'm actually very much of a nerd too. I have soon a 5 year degree in electronics and have had several subject concerning digital logic and so on. I think one my teachers inone of those subjects said that joke.

Digitals are more precise? The average analog clock is 60 times more precise than the average digital one, since most don't show seconds. A true analog like a sundial is infinitely precise. Before anyone argues with me on this, look up the difference between precision and accuracy.
When you need second granularity, it is available. Most digital timers such as on stoves and microwaves will give seconds when set for a short time. Digital watches and stopwatches even offer split second granularity.

A sundial is only as precise as it's finest mark. I have never seen a sundial have finer divisions then hours. A sundial that shows seconds would have to be very large.

The most accurate and precise would be an atomic clock.

Simpler actually...too much simpler.

I prefer larger bases, so you don't have to write out strings of such lengths. Base 12 seems like the most logical choice.

Base negative 2 is rather interesting though.

Nerds aren't truly human.

My nine year old casio's battery has died again - I can't decide whether to get a new battery or a new watch.

Analogue looks better on a wall but I have to think about it for a second or two to tell the time.

I absolutely love classic alarm clocks - the mere sound of them is so comforting to me. They´re especially great if they don´t run on batteries and if you have to wind them up (is that proper English? dont know if that is the correct term).

Like this one - nothing else can get me awake in the morning. RRRRRING!

Wind up is correct.

That clock can't be all that classic - it has an ad for pearl.de in the face ;)

THorbal, is that a "Big Ben" model/emulation?? Love those!

Correct. The only exception is when the bearer is actually working out.

Also, an appropriate joke:
A soldier is getting back to barracks after leave to town.
Afraid of being late, he spots a corporal coming his way, salutes and asks:
"Could you please tell me what time is it, sir?"
The corporal checks his wrist and says:
"Four divided by fifty-one!"
"...?"
"Hey, I've been trying to do the math since I bought this clock at nine divided by thirty-seven this morning!"
