I playing my first Noble game on continents, and I am doing very well (wow! :) ) I lead in points, near the top in population, military, techs, etc...I decided this was going to be a diplomacy win, so I plan things accordingly. I am Julius Caesar.

My friends: Willie Orange, Rammses, Joae II. Annoyed with me for no reason: Shaka, Montezuma. In fact, Montezuma declared war on me but his Galleons were no match for my destroyers.

Anyways, I have the UN and Joae II, one of my buds, is my main opponent. I tried a couple of times to go for the diplo victory but can't get enough votes. William and Ramsees vote for me, Joae votes for himself. Shaka is insignificant but votes for Jaoe. That rat-bastard Montezuma abstains.

First off, a few things I did wrong. After eliminating Pericles, I stayed on my continent and built my empire. I have no more room to build cities, except for a couple of Tundra spots that I didn't attempt to place a city. More cities means more people. I will try and build cities there.

I still have about 94 turns left.

1. When I get the UN, should I try and go for the Diplo win right away, or should I pass resolutions that would give me diplo points? I guess I am wondering what the purpose is of passing any other resolutions first.

2. Can/Will Montezuma change his vote and vote either for me or Joae or is it possible will will continue to abstain? Montezuma is annoyed with me. I can try and make him atleast cautious but that could jeopordize my relationship with Rammsees and William.

3. Should I scap my diplo victory objective and try for the space race? Is 94 turns on Normal speed enough time? Maybe stay the course and hope for a time victory?

Needless to say, I'd like to win my first Noble game on my first try, but it's amazing how you learn with every game.

Personally if I really wanted a diplo victory I would pick an opponent (like Monte) vassal him then try again. :) You do get negative diplo for having a vassal so very important you run fav civics of whoever is going to vote for you and if the civ aren't running them bribe them to it if possible.

There is always a reason why someone is annoyed with you i.e you havent done any 'good things' to improve relations. Sometimes the hidden AI diplo modifiers can make it difficult to tell what the reason is, but it will be something.

Remember that it is usually impossible to please everyone and trying to do so will mean you end up with very few good allies. Also, the aggressive AIs like monty and shaka are bound to declare war on someone, even if they are only cautious rather than annoyed, if you look weak or are simply quite close to them it could well be you. You would need to raise them to friendly in order to guarentee they wont attack.

One of the problems with building the UN yourself is that you end up going against the AI with the most votes which is often, as in your case, one of your allies, meaning you lose out on a lot of votes. It is better for you if an enemy like monty were to build it, as all your allies will then vote for you. Sometimes you can accomplish this by gifting mass media to an enemy who is not too far behind and letting them build the wonder. In your case, monty would probably be unlikely to build the wonder anyway and it sounds like he is technologically backwards compared to you so it would be easier just to vassal him to get his votes. Dont bother trying to improve relations with him to get more votes if it is going to cause bad relations with your other allies and cause you to lose their votes!

But I'm wondering if 94 turns is enough time? Also, I am playing with "Allow Vassals" off.

Well you haven't posted too many details so its quite hard to say. If you already have a large standing army which is ready to go, the war could be over very quickly. The other question is, assuming that you do capture monty, will the extra votes from his cities be enough to win? If not you need to be planning to take another AI as well or possibly abandoning the diplo victory altogether and aiming for score victory

In terms of my army, it's hard to tell. According to the power graph, Monty is ahead. However, does the power graph go my unit size or strength? I mean, poor bastard was throwing galleons at my destroyers. When he actually made land once, one of my tanks took out 6 of his units.

In terms of getting enough votes, I may be able to get them if I capture enough cities. I'll give it a try and if I can't I'll aim for a time victory.

Thanks for the info.:)

Thanks what I thought. But I'm wondering if 94 turns is enough time? Also, I am playing with "Allow Vassals" off.

Build transporters and tanks along with escorts and capture Monty's coastal cities. When you've secured them, fly over tanks every turn. You should have him on his knees after 20-40 turns (depending on the map size).

Post a save and anyone of us could show you how to finish the game.
