This is a quick IOT for fun and profit.
Joining:
Pick a Country.
Most countries have, unfortunately for you, already got governments, flags, etc.
Place your starting 2 armies and fleet. of course, you need a naval province to place your fleet in and two land provinces for your armies - so luxembourg can only have one army at start.
Alliances:
At the start there are two WWI-esque alliances - the Parisian Compact and the League of Danzig.
Countries in the Parisian Compact are Austria, Hungary, Poland-Lithuania, France, Ireland.
Countries in the League of Danzig are North Germany, South Germany, Russia, the UK.
other alliances can be formed, and they will be shown in a special mapmode. In addition, nations within an alliance will get a different font on the overall map.
How Turns and Orders Work:
There are two turns a year - a Spring turn and a Fall turn.
During both turns, offensives can be planned and executed. What happens is that you pick a goal - one of the supply points on the map - and allocate n armies to that. The armies will attempt to make their way. You can also plan defensives plans - Fortified units receive a bonus in fights.
Each Turn has three phases.
1 is a diplomacy phase. Within this 3-4 day period you do diplomacy and IOT.
2 is an orders phase. just hand in orders.
3 is a combat phase. Guess what this does.
Units and Fleets
Armies or Units are land forces. All armies are equal, all navies are equal. There are various bonuses you can pull off with your armies though:
Navies can be used to transport armies between friendly coastal provinces or attack provinces
If two armies are in adjacent provinces, and they are adjacent to a province being attacked, then there is a supporting attack from one of the armies.
Each time an offensive is declared, in secret or in public, a dice is rolled to see how many provinces you advance your units - 1 to 6.
If a province is defended by a unit, then two dice are rolled and the higher number loses!
If a unit is fortified, it gets a saving roll should it lose a defensive fight, and having extra backup units adds more dice - one per unit.
Naval Combat isn’t as developed. Basically, if two opposing fleets head in roughly the same direction there’s a chance they come across one another. If this happens, then same rules apply as with land combat.
Navies can support land combat if they are in the province or area, but land units cannot support naval combat.
Building more units:
Everyone has a hard cap of 20 armies and 10 navies maximum. Each Fall Turn, armies are produced until this cap is reached. Since there can be only one unit a province you’re going to have to think this through. Smaller nations might consider joining up with larger ones in alliances.
If you control all the LAND supply points owned by another nation, you get an extra 5 armies per point, and if you control all the NAVAL supply points that were not originally yours you get an extra 2 fleets per point.
Diplomacy and your own alliances
can be done. in the end, ALLIANCES win the game, not PLAYERS. You can try to win on your own. You can also try to survive jumping off the empire state building onto a jagged red-hot bayonet field, but where’s the fun in that.
