Diplomacy questions+first post

If they're a peacemonger and you're giving in to their demands, it's unlikely they'll ever declare war on you unless they decided to do so before the demand.

I think it's on the order of "you give an inch and they take a mile". Once they get that one free tech they start asking for more, and more, and more, and literally you end up unable to tech trade because you've given away everything you could have used to trade. And if you hold back so much as one, they drop to Cautious.

It's not that they DoW at Cautious either, but rather, that drop is just another step on a long process of the relationship unravelling. From the unreasonable demands to the Cautious drop, to the increase in espionage attacks, to giving techs out to your enemies (especially those ones you thought were "safe" in their hands gifting over to them), and so on.

Peaceful AIs are WEASELS and I hate them as allies, love them as enemies.

For an ally give me a good warmonger who many not be in a love-fest (at a hard-earned "Pleased" with some red at the bottom of the diplo calculations), but who also isn't as much of a hassle with demands for free stuff every 5 turns (due to the points earned via war efforts, etc.) And with warmongers sometimes I WANT to beef their tech up a little for a nice punitive raid into Victoria's territory, show her what it means to come to me acting all snotty. So then the tech gifting is my idea and feels more strategic, more smart.

No tech brokering option for me. I can't stand how loosely the AI will trade techs with each other.

You want to get the one of the aggressive ai's to pleased, then sic them on someone else you aren't going to be friends with. If you're on a continent with Shaka, Pericles, Elizabeth, and Tokugawa, sic Shaka on Tokugawa and befriend the other two. Eventually you'll have to take the aggressive ai's out or they'll get bored and attack someone else. You don't want them attacking you; you want to start the war on your own terms.
