Everyone (or almost everyone) knows about the way to secure a diplomatic win, build the UN, start a war with the #2 power and ally with everyone against him, hold elections and presto, everyone votes for you.
I personally do not like this method and think of it as a cheat, but in a round about way, I almost pulled it off.
I was the #1 civ (based on histograph) when the Persians #2 declared war on me. My MPPs kicked in and there was a blood bath. Persia took a huge hit and was on the verge of elimination when I finished the UN. I figured, everyone is beating up on #2 Persia so I will hold the elections thinking I would easily beat Persia.
Well there were 3 choices
Me
Perisa and
#3 India (who slowly moved up the charts during the war)
All my allies, whom I had great relations either Polite or Gracious voted for that punk India and I took the stunning defeat in absolute silence before I turned my war machine on Ghandi. But too late, game over.
Guess my buddies were upset that I brought them into this long drawn out war and voted for the one guy who was not involved.
