Last night, I experienced by first victory in Civ III.. Was my 2nd game.

I built the UN and won by Diplomatic Victory 5 votes to 3... Sure was great winning and all - but I had not satisfaction in the win at all. No civilization was going to conquer the others by 2050, as this was already the 1900's - some time in it... So I might aswell kept playing until 2050 - unless diplomatic gives you points.

Overall it felt like it wasn't a victory, just an early end to the game..

Anyone else have this feelings?

I think a lot of people, like me, normally play with diplomatic victory disabled for the same reasons you gave. The good thing about diplomatic wins is that they do get the game over much faster than spaceship victory. If I'm going for spaceship victory, I usually know the game is in the bag long before the final parts are built.

I usually leave it turned on so that there is a chance I will lose if I play too evilly and don't control the UN. I don't try to win with it, though.

I play with it turned on... I mainly try to get a UN victory when I've been a warmonger most of the game. VERY hard to get your relantanship back up.

I like playing with all V.C on.Still i haven't understood yet how the votes are counting. How many votes must i get?The majority or all of them?

I won game with it, lost one with it.... I don't like it either, like you said just feels "empty". So I too have it turned off :)

A majority is enough.

I play much like warpstorm; leave it on, and build it to refuse to hold the vote. Should some AI manage to build it, all try and organize the rest of the world into a coalitiona against that civ, which then won't dare hold elections.

I've always found the diplomatic loss when I call for the vote the most disappointing ending. I leave it on but I only call for the vote if I'm about to lose or if I clearly am not going to catch up on points.

I will generally leave it on build it, and hold the first vote, just because I fell like it, and then not hold any others. As for the hollowed feeling you get from winning a victory this way, I don't really feel like that. I usually make everyone hate me, so winning that way for me is a very big acheivement.
