Direct X update won't install

The direct X update on the BTS disk won't install because it doesn't have the XP signature.

Without this installation BTS will not start as it can't find a specific file.

I had to go directly to microsoft and install the direct X updates from there.

Got it working fine now, but should not have to go though this, a game should work straight out of the box. I accept that it may be as a result of specific settings on my PC that it refused to install without the signature, but the signature should be there.

The install loads and takes a looooooooooong time to check the directx and then vanishes ? Got that too. Got me directx installed it, uninstall the Civ4 items you have, reinstall them, install CiV4 BTS and it should go over it smoothly. (at least that's how it went in my case)
