Isn't DirectX 10 (beta?) included in Vista? So you're basically downgrading it to an older version. Have you tried to launch the game without the DirectX install?
Yes!! Just bought Civ4 today - runs (not sure how well yet) on an XP SP2AMD Sempron 2200 / 1 GB ram ...but... having difficulty on my Vista Beta 2 - (upgrade not clean install) on Athlon 64 3800 / 2 GB.
Installed without DirectX9 (as Vista runs DirectX10). Istalled fine but Civ4 errors with 'file D3DX9c.dll missing ....' - After a while I get 'bsod' - only thing I am running on the Vista box that produces 'blue screen' so far.
If anyone has this running on Vista bet 2 I sure would appreciate hearing about it..
1 - You should install it under Program Compatability for "XP(SP2)" with "Run as administrator" also checked.
2 - You must install all the Direct X files. There seems to be one or two that get installed from the Civ4 disk that allow compatability with DX10.
So far any errors have always been stated as corrected in Vista RTM and have not prevented the game from being played.
Note: Originally tried a normal install but the game wasn't playable until Compatability and admin was set as stated above
