In my current game, am heading towards the end of the game, progressively taking over the foe. Have a nice big navy, including 4 carrier forces of 8 carriers each. Each carrier full of 10 air units.
Yet, some of my carriers and other units are missing. I just look in a city, and see 3 Mech Inf have gone. I have not moved or disbanded, nor have the enemy or barbs been anywhere near
Conclusion: The computer/game or whatever is disbanding/deleting my units randomly?! Did encounter a similar bug in Civ1, but not in Civ2. I do have a large military, but am not getting any warnings that I have used up all available unit space.
:mad: Anyone else ever experience this, or can offer a diagnosis?

check to make sure your cites can support the shield cost of all units. If they have negative shield output, the computer will automatically disband the unit furthest away from the city first and continue this until you no longer have negative shield output. If a carrier is disbanded, i'm assuming all the air units on that carrier die as well (but i'm not sure about that).

To fix this, build Factories/manufacturing plants as well as mines to increase production.

If this is not your problem, it's probably a bug and i don't know how to fix those...sorry.

No, it isn't a matter of elementary shield support: most cities only have one or two units. (democracy) Have a large amount of NONE units from bribery, but is definitely not a matter of shield support

That's odd. Civ2 does give you warnings if your armies grow too large, then? I've never had too many units in Civ2. How many units did you have, again?

Probably about 280+ Mech Inf, 32 Carriers, 250+ Stealth Fighters, 80 Stealth Bombers, 20 Helicopters, 9 Nuclears, 16 Howitzers, 32 Marines, 12 Paratroopers, 25 Transports, 24 Battleships, 20 Aegis Cruisers, 9 Destroyers, 75-80 Engineers, 5 Spies, I recall off the top of my head.

It may seem like overkill to some, but I think it's just enough kill.
:sad::hammer:

It's fairly standard for my democracy style, I've had bigger when playing as the communist Soviet Union on the big Earth map, and waiting until the 20th century to take on America, who I had funded and built up just to try and get a worthy foe. At least that campaign made me raise the hint of a thought of a scintilla of a sweat: had to take out 42 cities, a largish navy, many outlying units, and a nuke force of about 20.
Took about an hour, but killed every unit for the cost of one stealth fighter.

I had much more ground troops for that one, and more attack ships, and subs full of Cruise missiles. Had about 40 carriers too.

Big armies are my penchant, no matter what government, so you can tell how puzzled and pissed off I was when they started disappearing. I think its a bug, as the game has been playing up lately, so I'll just reinstall it,

AND START OVER AGAIN:scan:
