If a unit is dibanded in a city does it add some shield to the production of the city? and if so how much

Thank you in advance

It's different for every unit. I don't think disbanding units inside of a wonder-building city works, (which sucks, IMO), but the game gives a little pop-up when you disband a unit inside a city telling you how many shields were added to production.

I believe it is 25% of production cost. So a 10 shield warrior yields 2 shields when disbanding, a 90 shield infantry yields 22 shields when disbanding. The experience and health level of the unit has do not matter. An injured conscript yields as many shields as a full strength elite.

Disbanding is immune from corruption. Some players build bombers (100 shields to produce, 25 to disband), relocate them, then disband them to get production in distant cities to produce buildings. This is a costly, but effective method.

Be aware that disbanding does not help in construction of wonders. Firaxis really made wonder construction a tough nut in Civ III. The only exploit is to start construction on a Palace or another wonder then switch to the one you really want when the tech comes.

if you add shields to an improvement thru rushing or disbanding, and then switch to a wonder, do you get to keep all your added shields?

if you rush an improvement it will not let you change production to a wonder with the shields.

In SMAC when you change production, a percentage of accumulated shield will be lost - to reflect the change will cause some finished tasks to be useless.

If Civ3 included that, the pre-built palace and switch to wonder exploit (I think it is an exploit) will be less effective...

I take it for the purposes of disbanding stuff, space ship components count as wonders and so one can not contribute to their production by disbanding units.

For this reason, when I "pre-build" a wonder via building the Palace, I've avoided disbanding in that city (hadn't even tried, perhaps the game wouldn't have let me if I had tried, as if the game considered the Palace a wonder).

But something else I have avoided, which I maybe I have not needed to- Can wonder prodcuction accept shields from clearing forest? I'd assumed no, but perhaps I'm wrong, anyone know?

If I clear forest while building say Catherdal or Bank, and switch to a wonder, can I? will it LET me switch once I'd gotten those shields from a forest in there?

Thanks all. Civ on.

forests cant add shields when a wonder is under construction, so you would lose the forest's shields.

No. If the improvement you are building has any shields from the clearing of the forest, that particular city won't be able to switch to a wonder. Once I had just got fuedalism and I went to change the production of my wonder building city and Sun-tzu's wasn't on the list. I was puzzled thinking there was a bug and I checked all over the place wondering why in the heck I couldn't build Sun-Tzu's (I thought maybe another civ built it and I didn't get the notification). Finally figured out why after I went to another city and found it was available to be built.
