There are conspiracy theories for everything - most of them disturbing, disrespectful, illogical, and at best "fantastical". Conspiracists are everywhere but they distort the truth and have thrived in the internet underground.

A Professor at Florida Atlantic University, tenured no less, and a professor in the school of communications has argued that the Newtown shooting was nothing more than a hoax designed for liberals to take away peoples guns.

He is not the only one - but these idiots continue to lower a basic kindness and morality for Americans everywhere. Anderson Cooper had a great segment on this conspiracist culture - And I think its about time people stood up against these people. Its not cool to degrade everything and everyone to nothing more than "hoaxes"

Sometimes conspiracies are real. Like the Libor interest rate rigging stealing Billions of Dollars.

Most times they are hilariously absurd.

However, when it goes past harmless to something more dangerous, like the crusade against vaccinations, it definitely becomes a problem.

And when a 1/3rd of the country thinks Saddam Hussein was responsible for 9/11, it becomes downright dangerous.




Maybe the conspiracy movement is a problem. It makes me angry when people say the moon landings were faked. If you can get into orbit, a trip to the moon really isn't that hard if you want to go.

I think there is a difference between the Osama thing and most other conspiracy theories. Aside from the facts that Osama probably ceased to matter long ago so no one should really care, and if he is still alive he could make it known.

We really don't have any proof on the Osama kill on display so to me it seems more reasonable to question it. But then things like holocaust denying when there are millions of people who were there who have first hand accounts of it. That's just a dumb conspiracy theory

EDIT: I guess I should re-word the main question. What do you think would be scientifically feasible, (or some ground breaking discoveries) that could occur by 2012, that would be the beginning of the end of the "modern" era, that are non-apocalyptic?

The mayan calender ends in December 2012.

What the timewave predicted was a moment of concrest change.

There are quite a few other little areas in cyberspace who echo this feeling of a great moment is nearing, and it kind of has a cult following.

You could probably include me in this cult following.

But the pseudo-scholars of this science don't think it is going to be apocalyptic, but somethng that will forever change life, or our perception of life.

Me, I think it might be one of three things: the opening of a portal into another dimension, (perhaps the first or second dimension), the key to immortality, or the self-awareness of one or all computers on the internet.

Anyone else in the cult of 2012?

If not, does anyone believe we will see something in our lifetimes, which even in our wildest dreams could not imagine? Something like protng to another dimension, or a technique to maintain lifesspans infinitely?
