Distance between cities

How far apart are you building your cities?

I want my cities to grow, but if I put them 6 tiles apart, it seems much too far!

What's your strategy there?

Put them where you need them. 4 hexes minimum distance is my motto.

the map really determines it

i find it more practical to forget about where you'll be at size 9 and just worry about maximizing the initial resources in your immediate radius

the gold seems better spent on "buying food" via maritime city states than by buying tiles...
