dl1 -- The Kings of Unfair

I wouldn't bother upgrading. Upgrading just isn't very feasible until you get banks in play as otherwise, you don't get much gold. Better to use old units as sacrificial lambs and bring out more advanced units.

We're killing the AIs on our continent but i think there's an AI out there that's teching pretty well (see the demo screen). And Darius is still taking a beating.

Utrecht spy==>colosseum to combat war weariness, we have 1  in Utrecht and Amsterdam.
Next turn they disappear.
next turn they reappear
Turn 157 we get a GG, send him to the front line to be attached to a chariot in the form of a medic III.

Turn 162 or spy fails it's city revolt mission, have to wait a turn and divert the spy from Bombay.

We got a GS and I used him to found Taosim.

Captured Delhi for the loss of about 3 swords a crossbow and an axe, damn hill capitals. It comes with a shrine, forge Oracle and a few other improvements. I started a market, it has 10 pop, not sure if it will be enough to whip the market when it comes out of revolt.

I whipped a hindu monastery in Nijmegan so we can spread the love and convert to Boudica's religion but she's very happy with us now that I agreed to declare on Joao (who's very close to dead and will most likely be eliminated as boudi is still a ways from Fuedalism) so converting to Hinduism might not be necessary.

War weariness is pretty bad at the moment, might pay to make peace with Bismark for a while.

I could have sworn I took a screenshot, but my PC says otherwise.

I'm so angry right now. I'll have to take a skip, or ask for a bit of an extension. My CD hs vanished, and I think my mother is the cause of it. That lady really gets on my nerves at times.

How about Bede takes it and if you find your disk you can take if after him.

It is in the hopper for tomorrow. Post tomorrow night.

I'm going to have to sit out and lurk for the rest of the game. in the interest of doing well and getting on a normal sleep cycle, i've decided to stop playing civ :(. I'll still lurk though ;)

Well I rolled the dice and went for broke. We have an army at the gates of Bombay slowly pounding down its defenders.

I trained a spy at Amsterdam to try and weaken the defenses but but no joy was had there so I have been throwing rocks at the walls and killing the occasional archer and axe waiting for the walls to finally fall. I also got a bunch of horse archers started at Amsterdam after running in a temple so people would eat. We need something to deal with Bismarck's catapults. I alos got some trebs running towards the battlefield for a little more City Raider type firepower.

Bismarck the Indian keeps shifting his troops between Bombat and Agra to the NE. I think he really wants to start an offensive towards the gem town so I also got ready to clear out the nest of vipers sitting on the jewels.

The vipers

The economy is holding up pretty well, considering all the unhappy people. Accordingly I finshed the research on Aesthetics and Lit and nearly finished Drama so we can use the happy slider to prevent starvation and can go back to troop building.

An Indian town came out of revolt so a courthouse was whipped.

Bombay should fall soon, like the next turn or so. I lost some odds on battles unfortunately and had to reinforce but in general the battle for Bombay goes well as I killed more of them.

Now for some tactical advice. Starting the offensive from the south was not the way to go. Starting with Agra in the north would have gotten us to Bombay very quickly and the front would have been narrowed rather than widened. A few defenders in the one border town could have pinched any attacking Indians beween the mountains and the sea. As it stands I had to think about defending three towns of Indians which limited the force available to march on Bombay. Had we started with Agra in the north after reclaiming the gems the war would have been over by now. The supply line would have been a little longer so the initial set up may have been slower but the results would have come more quickly. My fault for not paying closer attention to the game, but I kinda lost track there for a while.

The good news is that the Economy is standing up to the strain pretty well. Nice job, guys, on setting that one up.

And i think you are right Bede. It probably would have been better to send our main attack force that way and then build up a secondary force to try and flank frederick. however, that also leaves our biggest board threatened by any invasion force he would have sent (though in this case i dont think we had to worry so much about that). it's always much easier to miss these things in SGs i think. for the force by our gem city, i'd move off of the town to lure them on that tile, and then wipe them out with the stack we have there. we'd probably have to sacrifice the two cats, but it'd be worth it to just end that stalemate imo.

Played the turn

Domestic:
Tried to build GL, bidl on turn 10 with us 1 turn away
WW should end next turn
Economy is bad right now (20% science is still positive) but with all the cottages that need to be built and with our army not getting any bigger it should get better
Got a GG, sent him to the capital till we figure out what to do with him

Techs:
Finished Drama, researched monarchy (didn't revolt) and compass, almost finished music

I'm thinking optics should be next to sail to the other island

Foreign:
On turn 2 Darious is killed by Boudica

On turn 10 Bismark's last city falls, kidnap more then 10 workers total, almost no loses on our side

I'm glad Boudica is our friend

might want to get some more xbows near our border with boudica. she's boudica after all :crazyeye:. and our macemen will own the crap out of her praets

Well I played my set. I didn't tech optics and instead chose to go after education but we can go after optics next. We're teching along quite nicely so I don't think there's much of a hurry there. However, we MUST keep Boudica at pleased or better. She will not declare war on pleased neighbors but she will backstab at cautious. So if she drops to cautious at any point, gift her a tech since we only have +1 fair trade bonus right now. We will start to accumulate close border negatives so we need to make sure we off set that. Incidentally, she seems busy upgrading her praets to maces right now as her research slider is at 10%

To start my set, I MM'ed some cities. Not a lot of changes but just some things that I don't like the city governors doing. Also, I started a chain irrigation project in the NW so please don't burn those farms.

Turn 185 - music is completed. We get the GA. I have him sleeping for now, as we don't need the GA yet. Since we have the Mausoleum, it'll be a great GA if we can double it with the Taj later. Plus, it's a free civics change which we will need later when we switch to war mode.

Turn 187 - paper is completed. I have not started building the UoS yet though. I think it will go nicely in our capital once it finishes building other infrastructure. We can chop some of the riverside forests in the capital's bfc to speed up the production and to build more cottages there as well.

Turn 189 - Ankow Wat is BIFAL. Doh! Somebody has philosophy...

Turn 192 - I beg 70 gold from Boudica because I can.

Turn 193 - We get a nice (but useless) event:
Spoiler :

Civ4ScreenShot0001.jpg

The AP is also built - it's Confucian.

Turn 194 - We get the classical literature event. I check through the cities and find that we already have 7 libraries. sweet! :D

Turn 195 - The classical library event if finished and I take the 2 beaker to the library award (it only applies to one library though - sucks).

And that finishes my set. I think the southern coastal city is better for moai as it will take too long to build in the northern city. Also, I've scouted out the barb city to the north. There is a stack to take it next turn and I think it's worth keeping.

Spoiler :

why dont we switch to hinduism? also, in your screen shot, that grass hill 1s of the clams is where i thought the best moai statues site would be

I don't think it's a good site for the Moai. It'll take too long for the Moai to come online, and it only gets 1 additional coastal square for the trouble. That city site will be able to produce without the Moai - the one to the south is useless without it.
