Hi,
I'll keep the jist brief (because I write a lot), there is more detail after the points:
1. Has anyone got DLC (either free or paid) Civs or maps working on LAN or Net multiplayer?
2. A thread (linked below) has appaently got mods working in Multiplayer, could this be used (or something similar) to get DLC working in Multi, since you know, you've paid for it.
3. Is it even possible to mod DLC civs like you can normal Civs, if not, please explain. And if no one has done it yet is there any interest by the community to get this working and if there is it would be very welcome.
Thanks

Now the detail, if you care:
So I play a lot of LAN games and have dabbled on the net. I downloaded the free Mongol DLC, liked it and decided to buy the other DLC Civs, Babylon, Spain and the Inca. They don't work in Multiplayer and this was not made apparent. Rang tech support and long story short, "No it doesn't work mate - yes it does work but - only if - and we'll make a case number for you - you'll never hear from us again."
So I'm wanted to pick the brains of the usually excellent Civ modding community - I hope this was the right place to post this. I've seen good work here from getting unit graphics reskinnable to getting units in game from other games to full tutorials and write ups for custom Civs. So I have hope on this front.
What I'm thinking is, is there some way to get this done without the enthused tech support at 2k? (I sound like I'm being harsh, but I know people in tech support in other companies so I sse their point of view too.) Apparently according to this thread it is possible to gets mods working multiplayer. They seem very similar to DLC (except for not being loaded in the same manner) and so I'd assume possible to get working.
The ultimate goal would simply be to get the game to automatically pick up the DLC (like it does for single player) and load it into the multiplayer LAN/Internet (lan is the preference here.) It seems the difference between the Singleplayer and Mulitiplayer elements are not that great, and that it may just be a 'switch' of some sort that needs turning off/on etc. A workaround could also be perhaps taking the DLC Civs and making mods out of them, then using the method posed in the above post play them as modded Civs.
As for the workaround, I've know idea how possible that is. I assume that if it were as easy and just making a normal new Civ mod people would have nabbed them ages ago, made tiny adjustments (say to the Civilopedia entry) and then just released them to the community for free. Something must be stopping that from happening, besides it probably being illegal or seriously frowned upon. I've modded Civ 5 and made a Romanian Empire (Vlad the Impaler) mod from the Arab base (and visuals.) But currently don't have the time to try this with say the Mongols or the Inca etc. I've know clue if the DLC is somehow protected, but suspect it is. I do have some experience modding but RL demands mean I can't look that deeply into it at the moment and it isn't my field anyway. I imagine many people would love to get this working especially for in house LAN games.
Anyway, I'm having to rush this and hope both the points and the more 'in depth' explanation/thoughts were fairly clear and not confusing. If you think you could help, provide useful information or add anything helpful to the conversation/project at all it would be greatly appreciated. I don't see this being fixed by 2K Games any time so soon so it may be up to the modders to help people out. I'll also be doing my own research and attempts and note down what I've done when I have time.
Cheers in advance,
Mars
