DLC is what us old players used to call expansions.
These days DLC is commonly content that was already ingame, then extracted so that the publisher could charge you twice for the same upgrades.
Another thing you will find, is that content that normally spans five DLCs these days is of similar amount to what one expansion used to contain, so that way the company can charge you in some cases 500% more for the same amount of upgrades.
