Do Castles lose the +1 trade route bonus after Economics?

I am confused what it means by "obsolete with Economics(except defensive bonus)". Can someone elaborate?

When you discover Economics what gets obsolete and what gets not?
 
for buildings/wonders:
Culture and GPP never disappear
Building ability and other bonuses do disappear.

So for castle, at economics:
- you can't build anymore castle
- no trade route anymore
- defensive bonus is still here (because it's an exception), but remember it's obliviated by gunpowder units.
- culture (1 culture?) is still here
 
Also note that the percentage bonus for spy points (in BTS) is also obsoleted by Economics.

What about the Celtic UB? or the Spanish UB?

They have special abilities, if I can't build walls or castles, I will not be able to benefit from the special abilities, would I?

Say I did not built the spanish castle before economics, but I somehow wanted to build it after Economics. Can I still build it to get the siege experience bonus?

Same question would be for the Celtic UB? Can I still build walls after Rifling? If I cannot build walls after rifling, what happens with the walls I built earlier and the Celtic UB bonus? After Rifling in my cities with previously built walls, do my units still gain the UB "hills defense I" combat bonus?
 
I'll go check my cities in a bit. I'm pretty sure that percentage bonuses are obsoleted.

Edit: Yes, indeed, my castle's espionage bonus is gone.

I have Jail for +50% and Scotland Yard for +100%, and my total bonus to espionage points is +150%, not the +175% you'd expect from having a castle.

Edit 2: VirusMonster, once a building is obsoleted, you cannot build it again. The Spanish Citadel does indeed retain the siege unit experience point bonus, but I am not sure about the Celtics.

Considering what I said before, I have to disagree with this sentence =)

I am confused =) It would be nice if any of you could do a worldbuilder check on whether the Celtic UB retains the Guerilla I promotion after Rifling. Same question goes for Spanish Siege experience bonus after Economics as well.

I find it rather not fair that some UB cannot be built after discovery of certain technology.

So are you sure that after Economics I cannot build the Castle anymore for the Spanish Empire?

What about the Zulu UB building or the Mongol UB building that replaces stable?

I was looking at 3.13 patch changes, it is saying something along the lines of Mongol UB getting obsolote after Advanced Flight, like "Barracks." I assume Barracks is the wrong choice, it should have been Stable. Barracks does not get obsolote right?
 
yep; stables and ger are obsoleted by advances flight, not ikhanda or barracks.

I still stand what I said in my first post about what gets obsolete and what doesn't :)
