I play warrior and noble level, the conquest of the cities are too hard i am able to conquer only two or three cities and in the initial phase of the game specially. The AI put too units in the cities and when the player attacks the AI can use the his best unit for defend (example a pikeman against a knight if i have more different units for attack). I hope that this thing will be fixed because in civ2 and 3 was more easy.

It isn't meant to be easy to conquer an empire. And your defenders get the same kinds of bonuses. Bring along lots of units and you'll do just fine; read the startegy article on the Stack Of Doom if you want to - it's a good hint to what your armies should consist of.

Actually, I just give my strongest units promotions to counter what is defending VS. my units, the bonuses may be small, but then I can keep a bonus VS. a city if I'm using a Swordsman instead of an Axeman.

- Reduce a defensive bonus with bombard (catapults, canon, battleship).

- Soften the enemy with "distance units" (vary with scenarios, but some units don't engage in melee and deliver damage that way, air units especially).

- Use units with collateral and flanking abilities before other units generally.

- Get the specific promotion just before you attack, against a large stack of defender, getting an ecompassing bonus might be better, since if you target a specific bonus, the defender might be switched.

- Check the amounts of each units the defender has. If he has only 1 pikeman, getting rid of it, even with a few casualties, might be worth it as all your cavalry units will be free to ravage the enemy once this unit is heavily damaged.

- Use the GO TO option to see a %, only attack if this amount please you. Don't use your stronger units if the % is under 30%, send the cannon fodder in such a case.

To prevent troop losses, whenever I besiege a city I always check combat odds holding the right mouse button from the space my units are on to the city's plot.

P.S: Bring lots of Trebuchets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless it's very early in the game, you'll want to bring seige engines (and by "very early" I mean "before seige engines are available"). These toys serve to make it much easier to take cities. Bombard the city defenses first, then send your seige engines in directly to soften the city with collateral damage. Incidentally, if you've got a healthy spy economy, you can skip the bombardment phase by inciting a riot, which lets your army walk right through the gates, as it were.

The game is still pretty easy. People routinely have conquest victories by 1000 AD. Lower the difficulty level if you must. Don't ruin strategy for the rest of us by making it so conquest is mindlessly easy.
